Richard1949 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks for all the responses you've given. Is there anything I have to do with the bell tamper then?..do I have to get a ladder out to see if a wire is loose up there?...or is it just a quirk of the bell tamper switch in the siren box? Is this a common fault? Thanks, in advance of your knowledgeable replies.
james.wilson Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 its common as in things fail. Firts you need to find out which tamper circuit has the problem, then track it down. If its on the bell circuit, it could be the panel, the cable, or the bell. Depending on whay bell you have well decide how it can be fixed, ie repaired or replaced. It could also be a loose connection, could be a wasps next ..... the list goes on. Richard1949 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 In case this helps my enquiry, the siren/bell box is a Vortex one, made by Lynteck of Nelson, Lancashire. I've wired it as follows..(Key: Control Panel = CP + BB = Bell Box) ... (Green Wire) CP negative Strobe to BB STB negative....... (Red Wire) CP Bell + to BB Hold +.....(Blue Wire) CP Bell negative to BB TG negative.....(Black Wire) CP SCB Ov to BB Hold negative...and lastly, (White Wire) CP SCB RT to BB Return. Now this is from a wiring diagram I was given when I wired up the new bell box replacement for the original 'A1' one. I think it was done this way...and to be quote honest, in the last 18 months it has given no problems at all. Or have I really missed something? Again..thank you.
kwc Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 These panels have a history of tripping tamper if there is any surges/blips in the electrics. I would disconnect ALL your tamper loops (including the bell tamper) at the panel and see if it stops. If not then its the panel. To be honest we normally scrap these panels and replace it, No more tampers! Kev Have a look at www.actmeters.com They have a page on how to check out a panel and wiring. Kev

Must admit I never rated the Omnicon panels and would replace them at any opportunity. You could buy a far better panel for less than the cost of a Chinese takeaway for a family of four!
Richard1949 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Posted August 27, 2008 One more question please...which wire(s) do I disconnect at the CP end, that will cause the 24-hour tamper in the Bell Box to become inactive? Thanks everyone who has replied to me. Regards. Richard
kwc Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Hi Richard, EDIT - Too specific info regarding bypassing tampers/bells. Kev
