arfur mo Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 this might be an odd one, i need some recommendations please, i have a client with existing CCT, place in a set of serviced offices and a round trip of 140 miles for him to visit. he would like now to have remote viewing, swapping out the DVR he is quite happy wabout, but feels the office staff will be on the internet all day wasting time on his pay (really, as if i know of anyone who would do that ). he wants any internet access securely bolted down, he is hyper worried about virus threats bringing down the office computer systems (theres just the one pc and printer ), porn down loads and all the rest, he would like to use email as at the moment everything is done by fax, but wants to also to restrict emails to contacting him from the office to his home, and possibly a few other 'allowed' people like me, plummer and sos on for instance, and he don't want a link being able to be followed from within an email and bypassing security. so any suggestions as to the best way forward, is there a software package that you recommend fits the bill? i know the machine is on XP but not sure if its pro or not regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
james.wilson Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 You can either get the router to do this by blocking all sites etc, except for your dvr. Or you could remove the dns server ip entry or use a false one, then internet wont work but ip addresses will. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

james.wilson Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 that would work as long as the email client connected to the server with an ip rather than a domain name. If using doamin name then no. How do they stop internet now then? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

How do they stop internet now then? by a very hackerproof nad effective method - they don't have any internet in this office it's the CCTv remote viewing thats driving the need for an internet conection, the clients fear is once established its misuse and viruse's, maleware on this single machine system. currently the site pc is used just like a posh typwriter, for typing letters and circulars which are then handed out, faxed (no modem) or mailed out. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Block all ports in and out a part from email (110, 25) and DVR. The vigor would also let you white list web pages (leave the white list empty, and no websites can be visited). Also allows you to disallow any sites using purely IP addresses. We use this fairly often on point of sales computers where an internet link is required for card verification and remote assistance. Only the trusted traffic can get through. Email : martin@askthetrades.co.uk

djrock Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Hello, The linksys router I have you can create internet access policies, which allows you to block internet access completely. Or just at certain times, block certain services eg http traffic. It has a very basic url filtering but you could use a service like http://www.opendns.com/ to do the internet filtering. djrock
arfur mo Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 try tele eye they can add the browser software to any mobile with suprisingly good result thanks shinfieldmonkey, there is only 4 cameras', going by my home system test it will be an SQ alien as a replacement, very impressive bit of kit imo. their tech help to get it on DNSS and given i'm a complete networking numpty, was patient, prompt superb. i'm using a mda touch diamond phone (another great bit of kit guys), the images are just amazing quality on it, you can only view and operate the ptz on the phone and he delay from a person being viewd on the camera to apearing on the phone is about 25-30 seconds. regs alan Hello, The linksys router I have you can create internet access policies, which allows you to block internet access completely.
