took a phone call this morning that due to thhe high level of crime in my postcode area I was eligable for a "subsidised" police "calling" alarm system as long as I ordered it this month

" who`s subsidising it ?"

" er well, actually it`s my area manager"

"do I need police as my neighbours don`t have it?"

"well did you know sir, the police BY LAW are not allowed to come out now to a bell ringing"

"really, oh dear, when did that happen?"

"the 1993 police powers act ......."

"so hows it work then?"

"we connect you to our 24hr response centre and they phone the police on activation or fire "

"I`m a bit busy myself this week, can your surveyor call next week?"

"yes sir, Thursday is no problem, okay yes he`ll be there at 20.00, yes I`ll guarentee he`ll be gone by 20.20 when your kids go to bed, no sir it doesnt matter if your wife is in the bath, he`ll have all the forms for you to sign and were looking to install 3 working days after"

"so what reference method to comply with DD234:2006 are you using?"

"hello............"

"hello............"

hung up on me - LOL

they were lucky I answered - ffng withheld numbers

TPS helps no end, can do the same on faxes and mobiles.

used to get all types of calls (i even wondered what the ruling half was upto when i was out).

don't stop the foreign based call centers, but tends to strike fear into the uk ones.

strange thing is till last year, i don't think there has been any prosecutions?

regs
