gonefishing Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 We are quite new to CCTV,only installing in the last few years. All have been complete systems, mainly in commercial premises. Recently in our local villages CCTV cameras have been put up but I couldn't see anyone running cables ect. Some are the other side of the road to where they view the system. My question is, how do you think are they viewing CCTV cameras in a central location in the village without running cables? What or who's cables do they use on a system like this?
james.wilson Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 either on bt/cable leased lines or wireless depending on the system. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

gonefishing Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 Thanks for the quick reply. I can't see any antennas so I suspect they took the BT option. Anywhere I can go on a course to learn how to do this? I have been asked to look at maintining a system at a small airport and I need to up my level of knowledge. Everything we have done so far we have put CAT5 cabling in ourselves. Thanks Rick
james.wilson Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 id go for the manufacturer training. There isnt really any generic training for this sort of work. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
kensplace Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I would avoid training on the job in a airport, dangerous places and quite a few safety systems in place that you must ensure you dont interfere with I would imagine.

C.S TEK. Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I know a guy who works for OCS , they install cameras for Sussex Police, They put the camera on the pole, focus or test for PTZ and leave the rest to BT, BT have a division that commisions and connects to the Polics Headquaters. Not really that technical. Trade Member As Mr Kingswood said "Dont forget the 6 P's when installing.....Proper Preperation Prevents P*** Poor Performance!!!" Not really that technical. Town Centre CCTV is a specialism in its own right. Many think they can do it but the reality is not many can. When it works first time, no problem at all. Its when it doesn't work the engineer needs to have the necessary skills to problem solve the installation. BT will only provide a service between two points, to their standard, and it is up to the engineer to prove this. It's a bit like intruder I suppose, when it all works first time its fairly straight forward. It when it doesn't work is when you need the experienced engineer. Ilkie
