Tony111 Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 I spoke too soon :-/ The alarm went off 30 mins later with the tamper light lit again. I hate ladders too, so based on where I am at with the tamper still not resetting and the outside siren not working, has anyone any suggestions as to my next move please?

arfur mo Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 i agree with Angus, but refit the link in the panel to bypass the external siren tamper 1st - just in case. i wonder now you have disturbed the siren you may not have refited the lid to press the tamper contacts down properly (it happens ) least way you will have some protection until you get a new siren, i'd do that anyway for modern noise abatement issues having linked out, to prove if the siren was actually working properly, do so by arming the system while still inside, then once fully set (i.e. after the exit tone stops) walk through the lounge pir - don't open the front door beforehand. the external siren should sound instantly, if not you might have a bell delay set in the panel programming. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Tony111 Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 I was going to try the suggestions above later in the week, but new developements :-/ This evening we had a plastic burning smell in the kitchen, I didnt think the panel was overhot as the warm part is where the heatsink on the PCB is and that wasnt too hot, but on opening the panel the transformer in the top left of the panel was red hot. Not sure what that is doing other than keeping the 12v cct up, and trickle charging bateries so it shouldnt be so hot. I am now at the point of outside siren not working, so possibly a replacement siren or box, and a hot transformer inside the control panel so presumably something drawing too much current in the 12v cct, is it time to bite the bullet and call on one of the experts to visit and deal, or shall I try one more time to fix it myself. I think I am open to suggestions (and moving house isnt an option ;-) )

You compounded it by changing the batteries. power it all down as it isn`t safe and get an engineer round ASAP.
Tony111 Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 soooo, anyone on here based in the Leeds area, or is it yellow pages time?
