Paul Giles Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Do any of the //.National Installer.// guys know how bad ebay is getting for selling their boxes and stickers?? We had //.National Installer.// ring us re. installing systems and they informed us the problem had been rectified, that was six months ago!! We are getting a lot of //.National Installer.// boxes going up on some pretty dodgy estates. Just thought you guys should know? bellman Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Hi Kipper, Several of the guys at work have commented on the same thing. But the only people who sell new //.National Installer.// badged equipment are //.National Installer.// so I'd guess some of it must be "misappropriated" stock caveat emptor !!! Other companies must suffer the same problem with equipment being reused elsewhere though. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
neil.c Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Some of the equipment could well be knocked off surplus stock, but a fair bit of it is second hand equipment which has been removed from ex //.National Installer.// customers premises. I do know that our head office have been looking at ebay and are a little frustrated.
CompostCORNER Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Seeing these alarms appearing on eBay only brings to our attention that undesirable sales of security systems with respectible companies names on them is rife throughout the land. What you have to remember though is if eBay wasn't around, these undesirable sales would still be happening at a similar rate. When you see an American pay $18 on eBay for a sealed clear jam jar supposedly containing a fart, I can't see eBay being concerned at all with the practice of selling alarms. I've been to car boot sales that often have stalls selling alarm equipment. The worst problem in my opinion is traders selling spent panel batteries that are only fit for the bin due to their age. I'm not a violent person but I really do wanna slap these sellers for selling unsuspecting members of the public, batteries that are in excess of 5 years old for £5 and £10. I think the public at large are partly to blame. If they will buy the stuff, traders will sell the stuff. But how do we educate the masses to put en end to such practices? Tony

Buyer beware as far as Im concerned. If someone is so tight as to buy there home security second hand from a car boot, then sorry but at half of me is'nt bothered if their house burns down.
Guest dale Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Have u seen some of the systems been sold on ebay! My god... its scary that people will actually think that these systems are easy to install and will offer them some form of protection. Even worse... have u seen the prices they are selling them for.... looks like somebodies lifting peoples legs... and if people are too dumb then they deserve all they get... as long as they dont come to me and ask me to fix it! TSS Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 how many of you guys out there get calls every week about transferring from //.National Installer.//? We could set up a whole new business doing takeovers! Also know of many Ex-//.National Installer.// customers who went with them for subsidised prices then got out of the contract, and came to a local company for local service! I cant knock the //.National Installer.// boys tho, they do work hard - and for very little reward! I used to do 40 - 60 calls a week plus on call (min 18 per night or day) ...and they generate us alot of business TSS Communication is "A question asked, and an Opinion given." TSS Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Gaz, I'm not trying to start an argument... //.National Installer.// sell themselves as whatever the customer wants... Thats what they do... They are a local company with national and international coverage. True they seem to have a disproportionate amount of problems compared to the number of systems they have. They spend the absolute minimum of time doing the minimum required to get their customers off their backs for the maximum amount of money they can get out of a customer! Good business concept if you are an accountant and looking at figures! I cannot fault them for that. Each (service) engineer gives the best possible service he can, to his 8-900 customers, with the limited amount of time and resources made available to him. Sales on the other hand, may not be qualified or time served in the industry, had little or no training except for sales technique. Which begs the question should they be selling to end users a vitally important technically complex piece of equipment? WIWYWII? (Which is what you want, isnt it?) As a qualified and highly competent, timeserved engineer, its difficult enough to get your head around dd243:2002, PD6662 and EN50131, so what chance has a lowly figures-driven salesman of non-security engineering background got?
