JamesHall Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 The noise our alarm makes when we set and unset it is way too loud, and I need to find out if its possible to change it. In the manual for the LCD Keypad, it mentions the Chime Status, is this what I need, or is this the noise when the alarm goes off. Also, I am not even sure I have the mastercode. I hope my code that I changed it too when shown round my new Whimpey home 6 years ago was the mastercode and not just a pleb user code, otherwsie I am probably stuck anyway. Just had a thought. If I am unable to change the master code, or Exit and Entry noises, can anything be done with the big speaker in the hallway that makes the annoying racked. Can I muffle it with old socks or something, or give it a snip, with out effecting the rest of the alarm system.
Chorlton Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Welcome back James Antinodes reply here seems to say it all I'm afraid - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/comm...c=14886&hl= 6 years old the system is well overdue a full service and battery change TBH. at least the service engineer can change the volume at the same time. Maybe someone listed here can help - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/comm...p?showforum=268 , C.

'chime is a programmed feature, commonly heard on shop front doors, openning causes a 'dee daa' sound. on Gardtec panels it is set 'on or off' from using a master user code, but zones need their attributes set first, from engineer mode before it works. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
JamesHall Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Since it being installed, it only ever had a service once when I phoned (a local firm) (the number being on the box in the cupboard) to try and get them to come out and the cheapest way to do it was to get a full years service with them. The problem with it was that after an electrical storm, it got zapped and seemed to hang. When the engineer came out all he did was disconnect the battery for a bit, and he showed me how to do it, so ultimately it was a waste of money for the year and I never continued with the cover they provided. When the engineer came out to fix it I asked him about the volume and he didnt have a clue. He said he would try and get hold of a manual and that was the last I ever heard from him. Probably a bad experience, but I am very wary of getting someone out as I cant really afford the money, just to try and get the volume altered. Also, it seems daft that the Entry Exit noise volume is an engineer only setting, surely it should be up to the users preferance how loud it is in their own own. Fair enough, the actual alarm volume, oh well. Back to the drawing board
james.wilson Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 unfortunatly not, ie a users choice, as to comply it needs to be audible throughout the exit route. If you caould turn it down below the required level your system could no longer comply. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

Back to the drawing board we are appreciating you are trying to save cash where you can, but if your system fails you on an intrusion you need to think about how much ireplaceble stuff you could loose? tv, hifi bit of cash all back on insurance but its the invasion and damage along with personal effects you can't replace. you right in that the system should be set up (within sensible limits) to suit your preferences, but your system has been in place over 6 years, so you have not really got grounds to crib about an engineers setting at his late date. i'm sure the engineer set this level as he deemed fit at that time, based on his experience, knowledge and the siutation at that time. surely it was handed over and you were shown how to use it? thats when or at least shortly after, you ask for any adjustments which most decent companies would have made foc. reg alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
