Hockinp Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I have a Premier 48 with a Com-ip module fitted. Every day or so (not a specific time) the panel will report System Alerts to the Keypads (no events are logged) and report a Com 2 Fault, requiring a Reset. The Com-ip module is conected to this port although the error occurs whether or not it's connected to Com 1 or Com 2 (of course, if it's connected to Com 1 then the error reported is Com 1 fault!) Texecom say it's a problem with my IP network but I've tried several different Ethernet swictches and cables and the problem still occurs every day or two. Anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Hockinp Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 If it's not connected to an Ethernet network then it doesn't appear to error
BestGear Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 If it's not connected to an Ethernet network then it doesn't appear to error What I would do, assuming its connected to a sensible switch that is managed, is set the port speed (for that particular port) in the switch configuration to either 10mb half duplex or 100mb half duplex and not AUTO. Let us know... David
james.wilson Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 or connect it temp to its own switch. If you then dont get errors its definetly something on your network. You dont run intrusion detection software or probing software do you? Hockinp Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions. David - I don't have a managed switch so changing the speed and duplex parameters isn't an option. redbull - I have already connected the com-ip to its own ethernet switch (no other devices connected) and the Com 2 Fault still occurs. It only doesn't occur when no ethernet connection is made. I'm hoping to receive a new panel and com-ip tomorrow so I guess by swapping devices I should be able to isolate the fault. Always assuming it's not some wretched config parameter I've messed up.

The ethernet module used by Texecom is a lantronix Xport component, so its probably worth searching around the web for issues surrounding that. Basically, the lantronix unit used is a self contained ethernet to serial device, that texecom have just built into the board, so all the thernet stuff is pure lantronix and is not a "texecom issue" http://www.lantronix.com/device-networking...vers/xport.html David
Hockinp Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 Well, it looks like it was an intermittent problem with the Com-Ip module. The replacement unit has been installed and I haven't had any problems so far - fingers crossed.
Chorlton Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Glad you got it sorted & for coming back & letting us know! C.
