Cubit Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 But I have never come across the added interest scam before. Added interest is not a scam. You can legitimately charge interest on invoices outstanding beyond the period declared in T&Cs. Think it correctly stands at 8%.

QFA - http://www.payontime.co.uk/calculator/statutory.html great site for all in business to use & register with (FOC). even adding the logo to invoices/letterheads shows customers you are "aware" of it if nothing else. arfur mo Posted November 2, 2008 Author Posted November 2, 2008 Thanks Arf,Seems to me that if they reall thought they had a leg to stand on, they would have taken me to court by now. What concerns me is that they may be waiting for the ammount, with interest to get high enough for it to be worthwhile. I dont advertise at all, but hve done extensively in the past when I was in a different trade, had a few take me to court over similar things - but they all lost and had to towards, but not all of my expenses. But I have never come across the added interest scam before. Used to get rid of the timewasters by always charging for a call out, which included the first 1/2 hr labour, and charge a good heafty standard fee for insurance quotes. hi SUBS, tbh, my negotiating insticts would tell be to go onto the front foot a little, best of is to contact them by registered letter showing your dis satisfaction with reasons for. and warning of action likely of their unfair harrasement of you if the do not desist forthwith. as with anything contractural, you need to make sure it is irrifutably someone else's fault, the best way of doing that is with an evidence givingl paper trail for should it go sour. i can be a very fronty character (but how would anyone guess ) in these sort of situations, our mates at HMC&E decided to put me under investigation - no reason given, so i had to produce my paperwork in answere to their requests within 4 weeks and threatenning dire circumstances if i did not. no problems, i'm no lilley white but i don't take liberties, all my accounts are computerised so i printed off every single report i could think of running, then sent what was once about 3/4 of a nice forest by courier and waited, and waited. there is a limitation to how long they can do this but 3 days before that was up i get a letter claiming they had decided to extend this investigation over suspected undesclosed irregularities'. this was actually illigal use of a bit of legislation, but what do i care as i'm no villain. but your life is always about will you suddenly need to go for an interview so you can't plan long term works easily. finally i got fed up, told my accountant to write to them to either investigate or drop it, the response was they had nobody sufficiently trained in QuickBooks Pro , my response was to say i'll bring my laptop to their offices and expose any data they needed, and as i have sufficient knowledge of Sage Finacial controller and my wife also teaches it (which she did for her companies clients) we could assist should they need translations. the case was sudenly closed - funny about that. just sometomes, you just need to kick a bully squarely in the mid wicket regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
SUBS Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Added interest is not a scam. You can legitimately charge interest on invoices outstanding beyond the period declared in T&Cs. Think it correctly stands at 8%. In this case I think it is. As I said, the advert was published under the wrong heading, and is therfore useless. If I added access control to the wrong door, but still invoiced the customer anyway, and added interest instead of putting matters right, then who would be in the wrong ? According to that I could keep adding interest for as long as I liked, without bothering to take the client to court, then harrass the client & blacken his name to my hearts content.
Cubit Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Adding interest is legitimate - to valid invoices. For your scenario, then adding it seems plain cheeky.
hpotter Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 that has been very tempting - just to stop the tax man phoning seriously though, if you bar witheld numbers as a small trader it might be more counter productive than the anoyance. many of my clients who use alternative LCR services to BT which don't allow CLI, so also won't get through. not sure if SKYPE to landline calls would be affected in this way but think it wouuld, shows a 'international' on my home office phone. i'm finding a lot of my clients are increasing their use it, having far flung businesses and families. i don't personally use skpe near all my freinds and family are in the UK except one who recently moved to Spain, if we need to talk we simply ring and hang up, then just use messenger. regs alan Fair point. But then you could also use "call sign" (as mentioned in above pdf) which effectively gives you two phone numbers on the same line (different ring tones), so say one for existing customers the other for yell pages etc. Would give the option to priorotise calls (spelt differently though) etc.

arfur mo Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 please leave the title as wrote - rouge is the colour of my anger when i get such calls regs Alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
