stu-little Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I have purchased a replacement detector the same as damaged one but when i fit it the panel says it needs to be configured . I have spoken to installer and they say it needs an engineer with laptop to do this . Is it possible to do in menu as i do have passcode ????
F C E Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Yes it can be done through the menu but requires a hi level code which cannot be given out you will need an engineer visit Pm me your details and I shall see what I can do Regs FCE All comments in this post are my own views and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer
Chorlton Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 It may well be possible to program it via the panel however fire alarms are "life saving" systems and you cannot work on them without being competant. It is a legal requirment that they be maintained as such by competant persons/companies. Removing and/or replacing devices is not something that should be attempted by anyone without system knowledge/training. Any advice we give and/or mistake you make could jepordise the people the system is designed to protect. For that reason I advise you to seek the services of your service company. You will not be able to PM (private message) anyone as the forum does not allow this until you have made 15 posts and been upgraded from "newbie" to "member" status. C.

I appreciate and respect your concerns but i do consider myself a competant person to carry out this work . I test and inspect 25% of this system quarterlly, as well as addressable systems by protec , gent , clymac and gst . i am an approved electrician with over 20 years experiance installing annd maintaining fire alarm , building management and electrical systems . The detector and system would be fully tested after installation and i would not carry out work if i was not cinfident in any way .
Chorlton Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 stu I'm not here to judge & I'm only telling you the law (see 13.4 - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20051541.htm#13) The Q you asked shows you do not have, as the law says "experience or knowledge and other qualities to enable him properly to implement the measures". You NEED training on the Minerva Mx range regards device replacment. Your functional servicing (25% test as you put it) is not under question. Electrical experiance is unfortunately of little relevance when it comes to compliance BS5839pt1(2002). You can learn alot from the members here but 1st thing to agree is that fire alarm engineers don't do electrics & the same should apply in return. Each is a "specialist" trade and best left to the other. C.
