Your not using a rechargable nicad out of a sounder to run these are you?

If they are to run of a battery they usally run from a d or c cell 1.5v battery and the holder and everything comes complete.

If you want to run a normal led of a 12v source (they are usually 5v) then as above you need a current limiting resistor. 1k will do here here but it depends on your load (ie of the led)

you could buy the leds seperatly but they wouldnrt be synced.

For the sake of a sounder id just buy one fo them.

Maplins do, or certainly did a flashing LED which has a resistor already within it so it could be run directly from a 12V supply.

Okay quick update - The new Texecom bell box arrived today complete with the led lights / lithiam battery module, as had been suggested by the seller the green leds were off no use, could hardly be seen at all, swapped them over for the red coloured ones and it was a bit better but in no way comparable in brightness to the comfort lights often seen in so many alarm boxes .

not looking for something that can be seen from half a mile away just something that can be noticed from say across the street !! so okay then 5mm so called bright leds used, why come they are not as bright / visable to the majority off comfort lights you see fitted to the texecom etc style boxes ?? green lighgts are fitted to the excat same Texecom bell box up the street, these lights can be seen from a fair distance away , why the difference in brightness ??

anyone want to sell me two flashing " comfort lights " units out off an old alarm ??

Okay give in fail to see what the above link is got to do with my questions ??!!

these cheap 5 led bicycle rear lights run off two batteries ( AA ) can be seen up to 500 metres away, why come two supposdly ultra bright leds run off a lithium battery are so weak ?? again the green leds supplied are so bad they can bearly be seen thru the lens off the alarm box !!

I quoted & replied to your question in an attempt to assist you.

I struggle to see how you struggle to connect the reference to angle of incidence to your question about poorly lit LED's.

But no matter were trying to help here FOC.

The advice you were given in the 1st reply maybe the best.

Otherwise have a play with a soldering iron, LED's & batteries until you get the desired affect.

Light output is not necessarily dependent on the voltage applied.

As stated Maplins supply high intensity 12v LEDs and Normal intensity Leds.

Also the point of highest brightness is end on to the LED therefore as per the previous post the LEDS will have to point to the required position to get maximum brightness.
