UncleMerlin Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Hi, I'm after anyone who can help. I had a plasterer in to do some work and was advised to remove/disconnect the alarm panel. I reset the tamper alarm no problem when it sounded and removed the panel. Now the work has been completed I have reconnected the panel but it wont power up and the strobe on the bell box is flashing (for the last 5 days now). Someone told me it would 'Power Up' fine once reconnected. The wires are connected back where they came from (had digi picture taken before removal). I downloaded a manual from the gallery (SL8_user_GUIDE.pdf but read its similar), but it says call out an engineer if the panel power light will not illuminate. Is there anything else I can try before I part with my hard earned cash? Anything I can do inside the other larger box? (which I assume is the 'gubbins' for the alarm) Thanks is anticipation.
james.wilson Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 when you disconnected the keypad (i assume) did you insulate the wires? or is it possible they touched together? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
UncleMerlin Posted November 9, 2008 Author Posted November 9, 2008 when you disconnected the keypad (i assume) did you insulate the wires? or is it possible they touched together? Hmmm... Funny you should ask... I did hear the alarm go off for an instance and then the strobe started flashing. I did insulate them as soon as the box was off though. Do you think maybe I fried it?

At the very least I suspect you have blown a fuse on the circuit board Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
kka Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 power back done, removing the mains first. check all the fuses using a multimeter, replace with correct size (size written on cap of fuse) i would also replace the back up battery if i did not know it age. start again. UncleMerlin Posted November 9, 2008 Author Posted November 9, 2008 Thanks everyone for your help. As you all probably guessed, I know zip about alarms! Moved into the house and it was already installed. Previous owner had a mate fit it so I will try to get hold of him - He's an installer. I will try the fuses and battery though - I can just about manage that! Thanks again... Much appreciated.
UncleMerlin Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Just an update guys............. Changed the battery, replaced a fuse and were up and running........ Thanks again!
