Tony111 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Ok so I have given up on the Gardtec 350 with its problems and am now going to replace the old (broken) Gardtec 300/350 with a Melcom ST6100 from Maplins. I have changed all the obvious wiring over but am stuck with 3 wires now. In the Gardtec they were a Black wire attached to "Bell HLD" and a white wire next to it attached to "SAB Tamp". I am guessing they are a pair as they were twisted together and next to each other so am now looking to find exactly where they are in the new box. So far I have the following options in the new unit, a pair of terminals called SAB1, 0V and RT, another pair SAB2, 0V and RT... nothing else really would make sense though. The other odd one, all the zones had a gray and a green wire pair which was for the cct and they were ok, but attached to them was a black and red wire in each case which I am taking to be the power supply to the cct. All the reds were twisted together and all the blacks bar one were twisted together and used to be in AUX + and - with the one odd black one off on its own going to PCM or possible PGM as its difficult to read the cct board at that point. In the new unit the AUX + and - are obvious but im struggling to figure where to add that one odd black wire, my options seem to be N/C (normally closed relay contact), COM (relay common) and N/O (normally open), I am thinking the COM for Relay Common makes the most sense. There is also E for earth or S+ for switched Positive Supply but they dont seem to be logical choices. Obviously the unit is unpowered right now until I know where to put these and also I am going up to replace the outside box as well so I am sure once I get in there I might find more queries Thanks in advance for any insight into where these wires might go and if I am on the right lines.
Monty Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Melcom not much of a panel in my book would go for a better one scantronic / Menvier would be my choice www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com

Tony111 Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 Ok anyone at all have any idea what the 3 wires (one pair and one single black) might be related to so I can at least take a more educated guess at where they might go in the new unit? I realise not many people have worked on the new unit I have but maybe if they have an idea what the wires were doing in the old Gardtec then i would be able to figure the new units equivalent options out Black attached to Bell HLD in the Gardtec White attached to SAB Tamp in the Gardtec, they were a twisted pair so i am inclined to believe its about the Tamper cct for the outside box and SAB 1 is where I am going to put them in the new box, the black on 0V and the White into RT A single black wire was removed from the multiple Black and Red pairings that come from the zones / sensors, in the old box it was in a terminal called PCM or PGM and in the new box I have a multitude of options but I am thinking it has to be to do with the Relays so its either the N/O, N/C or Common terminal. I am tempted to try it in Common first, but the other option seems to be try it in the E for earth terminal if that didint work.
chexsec Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 The Black and White pair you have worked out correctly for yourself they are the SAB tamper pair. The other black will almost certainly be a latch reset to multiple sensors on the same zone. (power is momentarily removed from the sensor at the start of the exit time to reset a latch indicator). Test this theory by leaving it disconnected when you power up the panel. Any sensors powered by this wire will be dead and show as permanent fault on the panel.
