fertilebert
Our company has a fair amount of engineers spread over the north of England , we all start work at 08:30 , however as some of them are nowhere near the office they just phone in on a morning to get their jobs . As i live locally i usually go in to the office in the morning to get my jobs that way , my boss says this is private mileage , and i would agree , except if i need to pick up parts i think this is a necessary trip to the office and doesn't fall in to the private mileage scenario, as i live fairly close to the office it is not deemed acceptable for me to ring in and get my jobs like the others do , so they get their parts posted out to them and pay no private mileage , and i have to go in and pay for the privelige , Has any one got any experience of this ? Rob. Sorry rob It's still going to be private mileage. However, why not try a different tack? Carry more spares and just ring in for jobs and go straight to site? Propose this as a more efficient method of working and management may, if they have any sense, go for it. A win/win scenario.

MatonTE1
Basically - don't go to the office first call (personal) (regardless if you start from home or not) but go to a site (business). If you need parts pick up a job first near your office (even a cancelled RI/no access etc.) then go for your parts.
