moneyhunster Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I have a gas yard which is on a poorly lit area on an industrial estate, i want to install cctv as with the price of gas rising my products are more and more at risk, i had a couple of visits last year and lost a few 19kg bottles, im worried this year i might loose more. My question is would i be better off using 500w flood lights to light the yard or use infra red lighting so as to not warn the theives that i might be on the way to greet them. You can see the yard on google maps TR15 1SS, its in the coal yard (big black piles) at the top of the screen in satellite view

moneyhunster Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 IMO 500 watt floods lets the thieves see what their stealing i agree, my father on the other hand who uses the other half of the yard prefers them. the yard is an acre n 1/4 so quite large and im in the far corner of it. Do infra red lights travel very far?
james.wilson Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 with the right camer ir can 'travel' further than visibl light ut as a rough uide keeep to wha you understand ie, how much light a 500w gives off. Also proper ii illuminators have lens so for example a 10% 500w will be good for 150m. To vover a large area you will need to mount the lamps on the side of the the pan tilt head to follow the camera, else you will need a lot. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
kka Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 looks like you have a high fence, what about a couple of big dogs Kevin Scott. Owner of KK Alarms...... Installation .. Service .. Repair ...... moneyhunster Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 looks like you have a high fence, what about a couple of big dogs we have been down that route before, we decided it was too cruel to leave a dog in the yard all the time. theives soon worked out they could still steal from the yard by getting someone to keep the dog occupied in the front of the yard while others climbed over from the rear. Time to rely on technology i think.
spider Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Is it possible to 'coral' your most valuble asset behind a secure fence, possibly consider and electrified one with alarm output to a guarding service. http://www.simtecsolutions.co.uk/?gclid=CL...CFQRcQgodiVv--g It all depends on conducting a risk assesment and operational requirement to explore all the avenues, it might be that business continuity planning in the case of a substancial stock loss might negate the need for an in depth security stratagy for example. Get your insurer on board, ask them to advise, local police (maybe engage counter terrorist officer he will have been on specialist training regarding the protection of assets), how do others in your trade manage, local security companies etc

I would suggest you look at this to see one company's approach to protecting their assets. CCTV Images of
moneyhunster Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 because im storing LPG i have to be very carefull with access and electric fences. sparks can cause explosions. Im more keen to catch the ones involved as im pretty sure its one or 2 people. I have a wireless outdoor alarm with a couple of PIR sensors, they link up to a control panel which lets me know by phone if someone is in the yard, i just want a view of their car and face. i'd be very happy with that!! The last Gas dealer on the estate had it worse than me, they kept cutting his chain link fence and helping themselves. We have a 6" concrete wall, they just like climbimg over it!
