Guest Guest_Dave Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 I have been offered the following: Moss wireless security system with Control panel with LCD display and remote control key fob. The Moss security system complies with British Standards BS4737 for home security and will not invalidate your home insurance. The whole system operates via radio frequencies. Best of all the system can be armed/disarmed via a remote keyfob. There is also an auto dialler function which rings a telephone number if activated. The proformance specs are as follows; -Fully programmable -Coded radio communication with detectors -Auto reporting detectors -LCD display -Remote control operation -21 programmable zones -High impact tamper-proof polycarbonate construction -Digital communicator outputs -Auto dialler output Is the system any good? Any one have any further information on this system such as what units, PIR's, door contacts etc. can be use to with it as only a few are supplied with it? : Dave
Paul Giles Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Fully agree Pete. We have also removed such systems, its about time they were taken off the shelf. It really annoys me when they state it conforms to the BS. Every system we have removed comes compleate with a plug in transformer and is simply plugged into a 13amp socket, well that fails already! How many times have we all quoted systems, allowing to install the correct unswitched spur etc and a spark has simply come along and 'plugged' a system in!? Bout time these systems were banned! Hope it helps Paul PG Security Systems Somerset SSAIB Certificate of Merit Installers. www.pgsecurity.co.uk

CompostCORNER Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Wouldn't a wireless alarm thats permanantly attached to the mains via a fused spur need to be BS4737?
Service Engineer Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Wouldn't a wireless alarm thats permanantly attached to the mains via a fused spur need to be BS4737? Yes it would if it`s hardwired into a Spur, but most of these systems come complete with a little plug-in psu The wireless equipment would still need to comply with B.S.6799 as Pete stated earlier. ........................................................ CompostCORNER Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 DIY Kits, thank god for them. If it wasn't for DIY intruder alarms, we wouldn't be blessed with the police dictating to the industry about DD243 because of the huge amounts of false activations. And now they have dialler facilities?

The Moss alarm mentions an option for a dialler. If a panel has Comms capability, doesn't it have to have a permanant earth for protection for the comms board in case of lightening ect.... A fused spur would be the only way for a clean and safe comms connection I would have thought. LATER EDIT:- Forget about that. I didn't read the spects correctly. It only has outputs for a dialler.
breff Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 We used to fit Moss car alarms about a 1000 years ago, only then they were Harry Moss. After fitting about 2 we decided the company should be renamed Harry Toss. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
