braineebird Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hi there, I'm an electrician but have never dealt with alarms. I am on a job at a house and the client has asked me if i could find out about how to totally disarm her system. She's just moved in and finds it a nuisance. the problem is, it has been wired into the lighting system which seems ludicrous. whenever a bulb blows the alarm sounds in the roof???? 1/ the control panel has had all power disconnected from it. Apparently this was done before she moved in...there fore the panel is dead. 2/ there is a box outside the house which has a light on it indicating it has power although apparently when a bulb blows this DOES NOT sound 3/ There is some kind of box in the loft that DOES sound when a bulb blows. I haven't seen this box but have been told it sounds when a bulb blows. The client wants the box outside and the box in the loft completely decommissioned. Can someone guide me in this? I don't mind if the alarm sounds while i'm doing it provided i can stop it lol. By the way she has tried contacting the company that fitted it but they are being very rude and not helpful so that is not a route for her. I'm afraid she has no documentation either. All i know is it is an accenta.
A-G Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 We cannot tell you how to disable an alarm. How do we know you are an honest citizen? You could be a crim. wanting to screw a house..... so we won't give advise about disabling an alarm. My advise. Don't get involved. Tell her to ring around for an alarm company that will do the de-commissioning. One other important note: If the alarm is in place but made unusable, it could invalidate her insurance cover, so my recommendation is either have the alarm repaired or completely removed. . . . braineebird Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 well true i suppose but hardly likely is it. After all by all accounts the system has already been partially disconnected with the main control panel having no power. And correct me if i'm wrong, and maybe any honest burglers out there can confirm this, surely to god a burgler isn't going to bother with a house that has some sort of siren in the loft is he? or do modern burglers walk the streets with a set of ladders in their swag bag? I understand your concern, mine is for this client who just wants this unit in the loft disconnecting/decommissioning without spending a fortune. If it will help your conscience at all, i'll give you my ELECSA registration number and you can phone them to confirm who i am. I am sure i could steam in there...rip open each box, set all alarms off....disconnect every wire i can see....remove any backup source.....and make a jolly good mess of it all ....but that is hardly a very proffessional approach for an electrician or a burgler
FASTCAR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I presume it is the endstation in the loft , xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx *For obvious reasons we cannot discuss how to disable any system in a PUBLIC area. Anyone could then view this afterwards. Im sure you are totally trustworthy etc but unfortunatly not all the internet is. This is a security forum for security advice. It is not really for us to discuss how to lower your exsiting secuity. James
A-G Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Well, there was me thinking it was understood that we shouldn't give information about how to disable an alarm system. Maybe I'm wrong. One other point. If the OP follows the above instructions and the external unit hasn't got a timer it could be sounding for hours. . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.
FASTCAR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Apologies Paul... the alarm will still sound , so not really dissabling it , but I see your point. I had thought of directing him to another forum.(ukpanels) I would normally like to help using PM , but I understand this is not allowed anymore either. Regards.

braineebird Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Fair comments everyone. I never considered others may look at this forum who may not be honest so i totally understand and apologies for getting on my high horse a little earlier. I'll suggest calling an alarm company but i don't think she will so i shall keep searching. Thanks anyway
Chorlton Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 No problem. We are a helpful bunch normally but not with the request you had. Stick around & read some old posts if you need any other info on intruder systems. C.
