Guest Richard Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 My friends have a Scantronic 9800 which they have just had serviced (i.e. adopted by a new secruity company). Previously the chime setting (which they have enabled on the front and back doors) used to go 'ding-dong'. Since the service it now goes 'BOCK ding-dong'. The engineer claims that it can only be set that way (i.e. he probably dosen't have a manual to allow him to set it how they actually want it ). Anyone give me a clue as to how to ask him to set it up correctly (i.e. as it was before he played with it)? Provided I can pass on the instructions then they will call him out to do it correctly (assuming it needs engineering mode).
Guest Gimmick Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 I have to agree with Peter here, even although I have no experience with the Scantronic control panels. The "Bock" sound (nice description by the way) sounds like a driver problem with the circuitry that operates the speaker, or reverse voltage feeds because of cable problems. One simple check would be to try another speaker. It could be the fact that the cone of the speaker has gone faulty, and is "bottoming out" as the initial AC signal is applied. You get that one Hi-Fi speakers are they get older. The first signs of any decent signal and the coil back-feeds, causing the cone to slap against the end-stop . . giving you the "Bock" sound. It is either that, or the speaker is reacting to a real voltage appearing from the control panel in which case, you need a new one. Thought I would throw my 10p in. Regards Gimmick.
Guest Richard Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 Thanks for the replies but I don't think that is it so far. The BOCK sound is an electronic sound, VERY LOUD, and about 1/2 a second long. Sort of like a hydrophone ping but lower, shorter and louder. The normal ding-dong chime sound occurs after this and is at the volume it always was. The chime can be allowed or disallowed completely in the normal way with the 7 key but is now always this triple sequence. All the other internal sounder noises (alarm set, entry sequence, etc.) play exactly as they always have done with no added sound. Only the chime is affected. Any other suggestions? Please as it almost gave me a heart attack on Sunday when I opened the door to leave .
Paul Giles Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 lads lads lads! How can you all not know the true classic alarm panel, excluding the 9100 of course! For years Scannie had the loudspeaker chime reversed in the programming guide, the engineer has simply programmed it wrong. The panel needs to be put into engineer mode and choose the opposite function that the loudspeaker chime has been programmed for. The book stated loud speaker off = 0 i think but it should be set to on, cant remember the menu number as book is in the van and its now raining! Will post it when i go out to it tomorrow! bellman Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 it's option 22 0 for loudspeaker and keypads 1 for keypads only. Kipper is correct that it's the wrong way around in the manual. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
