Im building a DVR for my parents to use in a bar. I take it i just take your average pc and throw in a couple of capture cards and some software?

Can anyone recommend me any software? There will be 8 cameras in total. I've used google, tried a couple of free samples and tbh, they were all pretty //.B.W.F.//! What do you lot use?

cheers,

Tom.

Geovision for PC based is the only stuff we use

But to be honest you would be better off using a dedicated DVR for a 8CH application

Can someone please tell me what 'BWF' means. All I seem to be able to find is something to do with badminton or bisexual females.

Bad Word Filter

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

Again i would use a stand alone DVR for the job that can be networked so your parents can view the pictures from their house.

not used a pc with a built in card yet to record cctv as we only use dvr`s what do people think about using a pc as a dvr any ideas > ?

 not worth the computer crashing risk imho pcs are designed for internet and office based programs, dvrs are designed for CCTV recording

it does depend on the OS as well.

While i like windows on my deskop...do i trust it to run for months on end and never fall over?

in short no.

But the server versions of windows are more stable and with the right hardware (with certfied drivers) then yes it does have a chance. You could also use Red hat or similar enterprise Linux with high uptime.

worth all the hastle of using it.... probably not unless you have very specialised needs.

Hapf decent dedicated dvr for about
