DannyTheTech Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 not used a pc with a built in card yet to record cctv as we only use dvr`s what do people think about using a pc as a dvr any ideas > ? As stated above its not worth the risk of the system crashing. Even with linux based PC OS. Also there is the tempation to use the pc for other things as well as your recording system (i have seen this 1st hand at a customers) and you know what happens when end users get involved with kit In reality for the price of a half decent PC with large HDD and capture cards, you can get a pretty good level VCR replacment DVR. By VCR replacement i mean no frills and will record, playback and thats about it. I would be much happier spec'ing a unit designed for the job instead of a unit altered to fit the job. Well thats my tupence worth anyway. , Dan
