Louise Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 My Optima 2 Plus alarm is not maintained by a company, so when I went away for the weekend and it sounded, there was no-one to switch it off (as I hadnt left my contact details with the neighbour). Said neighbour called the Council as they couldnt bear the noise anymore - the Council broke into my property and disconnected the speaker wire. On returning home we had to take out the fuse from the alarm to prevent the light from flashing outside of my property. Some weeks later we decide to try and get the alarm up and running again. We reconnected the wire to the speaker and put the fuse back in. The alarm sounded (as you would expect) and on entering the code the alarm stops sounding but a beeping noise is heard and the control pad shows the letter "u". I then pressed "reset" and the beeping stops but you can still see the "Tamper" light flashing and in the panel you can see the letter "c" illuminated. Anyone know what I can do to reset the whole panel? The alarm is fine, just the control panel.
Alarm Co Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 i think i would get the council to pay for a complete new alarm system!! there is no way they should have enterd youre property and disconected your security system!!! what if theye had gone away and you would have been broken into ? what then ?
Chorlton Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 sorry but the council were 100% right and you should think yourself lucky you don't have a bill from them for their callout & time too. this is EXACTLY why intruder alarms must be serviced and/or on 24/7 callout cover. a bell sounding for more than 20mins is not allowed and servicing/contract should/would have identified the bell problem and avoided the whole incident. moving forward you need the system serviced and 24/7 cover to prevent the same in future. maybe not what you want to hear but IMO 100% the advice you need. magpye Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 i think i would get the council to pay for a complete new alarm system!!there is no way they should have enterd youre property and disconected your security system!!! what if theye had gone away and you would have been broken into ? what then ? You will find that councils have the right to enter premises in these circumstances and deal with the problem accordingly and no liability to the council I wonder how long it will be before the bill arrives? Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
hpotter Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The council have every right to enter your property and disable the nuisence alarm. You have a responsibilty to inform them of local keyholders thus avoiding the cost of repairs. http://www.basildon.gov.uk/80256B6E0039AD9...eb/wpEFEN5N8JD4 The problem with your panel may be you are confusing the speaker wires with the bell trigger wires btw.
antinode Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The alarm is fine, just the control panel. An alarm that can ring on it's own for hours on end is not fine and in my opinion needs the attention of an engineer to service and repair your system. I would also recommend that at this time you have a new external sounder fitted with a built in cut off timer. That way, if you go on holiday and the system is triggered again, it will cut off on it's own after around 15 minutes. It would also be a good idea to nominate a couple of keyholders for your property via the local council so that they have a contact if you do have a genuine break in or false alarm etc. Trade Member
Louise Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Yes Im fully aware it was a breach of the peace and that the Council had every right to enter. Im supposedly being sent a bill for over
hpotter Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 My boyfriend (an electrician) seemed to think that the disconnected wire (there was only one disconnection) could only have come from the speaker. In that case I recon there will be a disconnected wire or two in the bellbox outside, which would poss explain also the tamper fault. As Antinode posted though there is something wrong with your alarm, proberbly not the control panel (reason it kept on sounding is proberbly it kept rearming). Unfortunately with the old ADE stuff no option to change unlimited rearms. Bite the bullet, call in a pro. Cheaper in the long run (
Chorlton Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Hi Louise I'd say (gulp) you're not going to get a bill after 2 months. I base this on my experience of my local council billing me
