gjp Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi guys, I'm a network administrator by trade, but my relm has spilled over into the world of access control, alarm systems and general sparky a more times than I care count now. Am working on a Premier Texecom 48 at the moment, but the panel just keeps freezing. It still sounds a beep when a button is pressed, it has in effect just frozen, and nothing happens when pressing any button. (And trust me I've tried pressing them all). The panel will stay frozen, sometimes for hours, sometimes for minutes, before you can even attempt to do anything again. Some functions, like adding new users, have become impossible as the panel refuses to function and will freeze everytime. It will also freeze every time we log off engineer mode. Anyone seen this before, and have any ideas or suggestions? Would be much appriciated! Thanks.
Monty Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Not a panel that we have used but sounds like you need to down power and do a factorie defalt and reprogg the whole system you will need the engineer info or an engineer to do it for you . good luck www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com
shinfieldmonkey Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 sounds strange never seen that before and have been working on texecom for donkeys The first thing i'd check is the keypad and assosiated cableing if there ok i'd default the panel and reprogram If you have a copy of wintex and a pc-comm lead this will make things easier Mark Terry A.M.I. gjp Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Hmmm wiring all seems to be OK from what I can see, there is some part I can't get to and will have to get the test kit out for in a bit. Have checked the keypad itself etc and it seems alright, it still beeps on key press so it's not the connectors between the keys themselves either. It is in effect just like when a computer freezes, buttons still beep, but the display just stays frozen. And only really when doing engineer functions. Had a feeling it might require resetting. Fun
shinfieldmonkey Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 get a engineer with a lappy and the coms lead he can have it done in half hour. were abouts are you? Mark Terry A.M.I. Security Covering the Thames Valley Tel. 01189 775173 24hours mark.terry@amisecurity.co.uk
gjp Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Just down the road from you actually. Bracknell. Just an update to the problem, it's only the number 2 (abc) button that causes it to freeze. If you press it, the display will lock, and do nothing. However giving the keypad a bit of a shake will unfreeze it again and the correct thing will be displayed. (eg when adding a user's name, press 2 button five times to get a lower case "a". System will then freeze and display will show whatever was on before you pressed the 2 button, then give the keypad unit a bit of a knock and a shake and suddenly your lower case "a" will appear. Then you can work like normally again until you require the number 2 button.
shinfieldmonkey Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 sounds like a sticking button new keypad time give me a call if you want Mark Terry A.M.I. Security Covering the Thames Valley Tel. 01189 775173 24hours mark.terry@amisecurity.co.uk
lawandorder Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 sounds like a sticking button new keypad timegive me a call if you want Definitely sounds like a keypad problem, if one keys stays pressed all other keys will be ignored giving the impression that the panel has frozen. Had it with an R8 keypad once and lost count of the ammount of old Regalsafe keypads that suffered similar problems.
breff Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 There was a bad batch of keypad buttons that the mould hadn't been cut properly, remove the buttons and look for little ridges on the clear plastic, remove the ridges with a stanley knife. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
gjp Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 Only thing that makes me think it isn't the keypad is that the other keys still beep when it's frozen. If the button was stuck down, then surely they wouldn't do anything at all? If they are beeping when pressed, then it's being reconised that they have been pressed. Not sure how it's setup... Thanks so far
