andyhodson Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Hi, In the office we have a filing cabinet full of client details, commissioning records, servicing, instruction manuals etc - we haven't quite got round to using a PC based system which is odd because nearly everything else we do is done on a PC. Anyway, this is fine for when a job comes in during office hours, but my problem occurs when I have to go out in the evening or weekends etc. Its a pain having to drive into the office to pick up a file when invariably the job is in the other direction! I would be interested in others solutions to this problem and what ideas people might have? Andy Manufacturer
Guest dale Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 All our client details are on the office network, and we can login from anywhere with our laptops, as long as we have a phone line to plug into, so it makes life a lot easier to get data. Im just in the process of making it even easier to get records by building a web based system on a secure website.
morph Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Petes right about the Kiss software, its very good, has all the info and features that you need and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. There are quite a few guys on the forum using it now. Ring and get a demo disc. Also meant to mention you dont need to be "IT nerd" to be able to use it, its simple. Colin.
time served Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Sounds very good as i'm a total NOOB!!! have'nt even got round to doing a avitar is that right?? Given Rod a ring me trial copy is in the post, ta very much.
Paul P Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Hi first post hopefully i have got it right We have a copy of the spec and a system record sheet detailing previous visits (if the engineers can be bother to fill it in) in the control panel. We do not as a rule consult customer records at the office in the event of a call out. Regards Paul Trade Member
morph Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 So what do you do about credit control and renewals etc? You shouldn't keep paperwork in the panel as it can create a fire hazzard!! Colin.
jb-eye Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 We have a copy of the spec and a system record sheet detailing previous visits (if the engineers can be bother to fill it in) in the control panel. I understood that paperwork is no longer allowed in alarm panels. We are field testing IPAQ using GPRS over bluetooth from our mobiles. This integrates with Alarm master and jobs are dispatched and returned to the data base real time. We looked at Mentor but theirs is a business solution not alarm solution and we need a mortgage to pay for it. The IPAQ also uses Co pilot live which gives limited tracking (if required) and two way touch screen communication messaging The system is not fully developed but keep your eye on it as specs. and customers on stop will come up even in the early hours. Customers!
morph Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 We are field testing IPAQ using GPRS over bluetooth from our mobiles Have you found this reliable? The Kiss software also has this facility on the higher end version and we where looking to implement this, but we have concerns about the reliabillity of gprs. Colin.

The GPRS is rock solid but to be honest the Alarm manager development is slow we had ours working wire free before them. It is the way forward though. I will however contact KISS just to compare products Jeff Customers!
