markja Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi. A first post for me. Just recovering my home system from a powered down 9800 and a completely flat/dead 10 year old Battery. Yes. I know I have been negligent in my battery replacement regime... I've learnt my lesson! I have the "Install & User Guide" and am a 'competent person' (despite the above!). I've programmed the top floor zones which are simple door sensors and PIR's. Walk tested ; set entry/exit times. Good... I now need to do two things Program the two Entry/exit doors which are in zone one (1). One PIR in zone 6 on the entry route. Understand/program the kitchen PIR (zone 7) to be excluded when selecting "Part set C" Would like to understand what the following terms actually mean and how used? Zone Types Fire Zone 24 hour zone I just don't know what these types are. I have just used the normal Alarm. Zone Attributes ch (chime) St (Soak Test) 2A (double knock) b (armed in part set B ) c (armed in part set C ) OA (Omit Alllow) Does chime make the control box sounder respond as well as the external Bell? Soak Test? I guess double knock is delaying an alarm unless two successive detection are made from the same sensor within some TBD time period?? I was thinking I need to 'exclude' a zone from part set C. But is my thinking about face. Do I need to define every zone which is included in part set C?? I guess all zones can't be omitted (by default) by user cmds unless explicitly allowed by this attribute. That should be enough to get the ball rolling... TIA Mark
hpotter Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Difference between a fire zone & 24hr zone is that fire zone will make int & ext sounders pulse so in theory you would know its a fire, not intruder/tampering etc. If you attribute a zone to chime the internal spkr (not the external) will ding dong when cct opens when system unset. A zone on soak test will log an activation when system set but not set off sounders. Dble knock, pretty much as you think b & c are attributes you need to assign to a zone if you want it to be included in a b or c setting. Omit allow, if you assign this attribute to a zone the user may indeed omit the zone when setting.

Thanks for this. Was getting worried I was not going to get a reply OK on the fire zone. But then what is the difference between a "24hr zone" and a "normal alarm" ? and To exclude just one zone from "part set C" I have to go back and reprogram all zones (bar one) to actually include "part set C". Hmmm. I guess there is a logic there...
lawandorder Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks for this. Was getting worried I was not going to get a reply OK on the fire zone. Hmmm. I guess there is a logic there... A 24Hour zone will activate a full alarm even when the system is unset, this might be used in a warehouse on a fire door to alert the fact that a member of staff is trying to smuggle goods out whilst at work or it might be used to protect a valuable display cabinet in a public area of a shop whilst the shop is open. A normal alarm zone will only trigger the alarm when the system is set but will trigger it immediately and will ignore any entry time which you have programmed in. I can't help with the other question as it's been a while since I programmed a 9800 but as I recall, by default, zones were excluded from part sets and you had to program them in unlike many panels where you have to program them out.

Thanks for the '24hr' explanation. Makes sense. Not applicable to this domestic situation though. I will have a play with the Part Sets by programming to "include" instead of "exclude". Tks, Mark J
