plcman10 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hi all, new to the forum, i have the above panel that has been ok for the last couple of years but now has developed a problem. I was away for 2 weeks at Xmas and a PIR in conservatory triggered an alarm, i have had this problem before as conservatory is large and get very hot and cold but i will replace with a better unit. Anyhow the problem is that A) I have reset the alarm and all is OK apart from that the strobe on bell box will not turn off. B) The volume for the in built keypad is now at full volume whereas before i had reduced the volume. All other programmed functions appear to work OK so i do not think it has lost any programming. Any help would be appreciated. I have all manuals and codes but really do not want to reset the unit back to factory default as this will require me to reprogram all the zone settings.
FASTCAR Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Has the panel actually reset ? ie. is the DAY led lit.If so , them just power down (mains and battery) then power up again , all programming should be retained. Be careful around hazardous voltages.
plcman10 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Hi there, yes the panel is in day mode, i just removed all power and still the same. If i remove the strobe feed in the panel then the strobe stops so it is the panel that is energising the strobe. When all power was removed siren started so looks like bell control and battery is good also.
FASTCAR Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 As your panel appears to be doing something it shouldn't , I would crash it and reprogram , should only take a few minutes.

Take the strobe & bell trig wires out of connectors on panel pcb. (beware mains etc). button panel back up & reset. try setting system and see if keypad back to normal - volume wise. If it is, recon poss wiring fault on bell wire.
plcman10 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Hi there, tried that and no joy. What i don't understand is that the volume is controlled by a potentiometer and not software. I think i will crash the software tonight and reprogram. This panel also has an option for an opticam lighting controller and i have seen for sale on Ebay - what will this unit give me. I would also like to know what remote key pad units i can connect to this unit.
hpotter Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Then i'd completely dis the bell unit (let it ring) in the panel and again see if keypad still on max vol. As you point out, vol not controlled by software, spkr/bell/strobe on same fuse therefore same pcb cct (IIRC few TIP121's so poss HR short affecting spkr xistor. Still recon bell unit wire/poss bell unit. Still wont hurt to crash & reprog.
antinode Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 If I recall (never worked on Optima much) these panels will beep louder if they have'nt been reset after an alarm. This may explain why the strobe is still flashing too. Pressing the Reset button does nothing? What does entering your code do? With regards to the "lighting controller" you can use it to switch on a couple of lights when the alarm is triggered. May be better off with a proper GJD lighting system. You can link this to the alarm aswell. Any Accenta keypad will work with your G3 Optima. Trade Member
hpotter Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 A) I have reset the alarm and all is OK apart from that the strobe on bell box will not turn off. Any LED accenta key pad will work, not the lcd G4 type. (sorry antinode, not trying to upstage you etc)
plcman10 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Well well, crashed software and reprogrammed - guess what? no change. The pot for volume does not change the volume and the strobe is still on but all else works fine so for now strobe is disconnected and i will look for new panel. Any suggestions from you experts would be helpfull, i need the following: min 8 fully programmable zones at least 1 remote keypad as i have home automation i would like the following: some form of PC programmable interface 232/485 or ethernet interface to some form of lighting control remote dialing to mobile etc. Thanks
