barncliff Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hi, I fitted a Melcom ST6500 with Vortex bell box about 8 years ago in my house and it's worked fine since then. However, the other night after a number of short power cuts the alarm sounded when the power came back on. I realised that the internal battery needed replacing. I've now got a battery. I've also had the cover off (now back on) the external bell box, actually just to see if there was any reason the green led wasn't very visible unlike the red one... After re-fitting the battery and connecting the mains, and screwing the cover back on the control unit the tamper led remains illuminated? It doesn't seem to want to got out by pressing keys on the control pad, even in Engineer mode. I don't think this is the tamper switch on the control box. My suspicions are with the external bell box. Is that tamper switch likely to have corroded? Or am I just missing something when re-fitting the battery? I didn't want to have to reset the non-volatile memory, as this would mean having to re-program everything - and not sure that would solve the problem anyway! Any help would be much appreciated.
barncliff Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Further info, The red and green leds are flashing alternatively on the external bell box, which the instructions indicate is normal (i.e. not tamper activation). So I'm now less sure it's a bell box tamper issue. I should also add that the control unit has been powered down without a battery for a few days.
barncliff Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Further info2: If I open a door (which has a trigger switch) the tamper led goes out, so everything looks normal. However if I then try to set the alarm by entering the user code, the internal sounder goes off immediately The control unit seems to be as confused as I am....
Monty Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Melcom ! not a panel we use or have had much experiance of (more a DIY job in my eyes ) but looks like a refresh may be required have you tried linking out the bell tamper at the panel eg neg supply and tamper return this would eliminate bell tamper sw problem . or has the panel been prog for eng reset after a tamper (not sure if applicable to this panel ?? ) www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com
barncliff Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Problem was the bell tamper switch. Replaced the bell box and now works fine.
