tonyobm Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 This alarm is a Guardtec 800 series. Who ever installed this system ran the cablesbehind a 6" skirting at around 3" up , I hadto cut skirting and cut through them, did not know they were there. I thought that was meat tobe a safe zone. This was only installed in Jn 2007 , do you think I would have any come back from the instales regarding getting it fixed? The external bell only went off fo aropund 10 mins, then nothing. I have joined the cables and changed the AUX 1amp fuse which looked like it had blown and the BELL 1amp fuse, this actually looked ok. There is a reset black rectangular plastic block, I held this down . Nothing. The room pirs were working including the one I had to join. But the keypad was dead, no display at all, no noise or light. I entered the alarm code the way the keypad says to do so with no response whatsoever. I downloaded the manual and read the section page 19 and 20 where it says to establish the type of reset code for the system, the owner has to contact the alarm company. They will do that tomorrow. I need to know if there is anything else I can do to wake up the keypad, I took the face cover off to see if there was a fuse in it and found nothing. It had 4 fuses in total, they were clear glass with coloured rings around them stacked vertical on the r/h/s top RKP 0.5a, then BELL 1.0a, then AUX 1.0a, then GARD 315a Any advice would be appreciated, Thank you
alterEGO Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 lol, the reset thing is a jumper, pressing it untill you are blue in the face won't make a bit of difference. Common sense would point to the remote keypad fuse. no, i don't think you would have any come back, i would not run cables like that but they may have been asked to for some reason.
farker Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 someone mentioned in another thread to remove the keypad and wire it with a short bit of wire directly to the keypad to test. Also did you remove the power completely and the battery? this will need to be done to sync/initialize the keypad

Did not touch batteries. Hope this makes things clearer lol, the reset thing is a jumper, pressing it untill you are blue in the face won't make a bit of difference.Common sense would point to the remote keypad fuse. no, i don't think you would have any come back, i would not run cables like that but they may have been asked to for some reason. Thank you for repsonding, please confirm if that would be the RKF 0.5amp fuse Thank you
Rulland Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Remove the wires going in to the panels keypad terminals, remove the keypad from it's current location (if it's to far to put a temporary alarm cable too), bring the keypad to the panel and usuing a spare bit of cable-say 6ft long-wire directly to the panel (make a note of connections/colours obviously). You will have to disconnect the battery-then mains fuse- to cycle ALL power off, power back up (panel will go into tamper if the KP tamper hasn't been held off) see if the system responds to keypresses etc now-all you've effectivly done is by pass the existing cable going to the KP for 'narrowing down purposes'. Richard. someone mentioned in another thread to remove the keypad and wire it with a short bit of wire directly to the keypad to test.-meant panel.
farker Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 please confirm if that would be the RKF 0.5amp fuse The RKP (it is P but on the board the writing is covered by the fuse a bit so looks like F) is the "Remote Key Pad" fuse. Check that with a multimeter or replace, if its blown there is no power to the KeyPad like you describe. someone mentioned in another thread to remove the keypad and wire it with a short bit of wire directly to the keypad to test.-meant panel. Thank you..... thats what I ment

Thank you very much for your explanation, but this is beyond my techno knowledge level.
farker Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Thank you very much for your explanation, but this is beyond my techno knowledge level. Have you got a multimeter and know how to use it? If so why don't you try to test the continuity of the wires to the keypad individually? Otherwise might be time to get the experts in.
