chuckfrisbee Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Inherited the alarm system with the house, and to be honest we do not use it, apart from programming our code. Had a problem with the electrics, so switched off everything in the house, including the switch for the alarm. After power restored did not switch the alarm power back on, and it went off at 1am, and did not respond when entering the code. Had to resort to removing the cover, then removing the speaker fuse. Of course now the tamper light is on, and all I want is to return to the status quo, i.e. I will activate the alarm if and when required, but I want to stop it going off as soon as I replace the fuse, and stop the tamper light flashing. I guess its going off was to do with the back up battery getting low. I would use it reasonably regularly, but cannot rely on my 24 year old to remember his name never mind an alarm code after a heavy Saturday night.
Gopher Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Your right that's why it went off the back-up battery was too low to keep the panel powered up, you should be able to switch the power back on with the box closed and enter your code that should silence the alarm, I don't know the exact sequence you might need as I'm not familar with the Veritas but normally it's code and reset to clear faults or code twice. It may have lost some of the settings which include the user code so this may have went back to the default code. chuckfrisbee Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Thanks for the quick reply gopher. As I inherited the alarm system with the house I have no idea what the default code might be. Is there a standard one for these alarms ?
Gopher Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yes but I can't give it out as 1) I don't actually know it and 2) It would probably break one of the forum rules. A-G Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Be aware: If it has defaulted codes back to factory set, it will also have defaulted any programming .... so some parts of the alarm may not function or function correctly or as expected. . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.
chuckfrisbee Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 OK no worries thanks gopher. If it doesn't like the code I will probably just turn it off at the mains as I have other things to fork out for at the moment without adding an alarm engineer on top.
Guest RJBsec Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I have other things to fork out for at the moment without adding an alarm engineer on top. You don't have to buy one outright, normally they charge by the hour
Rulland Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It shouldn't have lost any codes/progging as the non volitile memory (NVM) is meant to keep all-even in total power loss. How that actually holds up under test conditions-who knows!
chuckfrisbee Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Hmm - have replaced the front panel, and all now seems ok, i.e. the tamper light has gone out and it seems to recognise the code. I have not as yet replaced the fuse for the "noisy bit" (I didn't want it kicking off again), but may well do later - although I guess the tamper light will re-appear when I remove the front panel again. RJBsec - well we do have a spare room, and as long as alarm engineers don't eat too much .......................))
