Guest itjob Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 Hi, I have a Veritas 8C control panel. I recently went through a system check and found that the bell box sounded when I removed the 3am Fuse within the fuse spur. The panel lost all its settings reverting back to the factory settings. I assumed that the back up battery must have been faulty so I bought a new one. I have installed a new battery and checked the wiring contacts but if I remove mains power the bell box sounds off. Any Ideas????
CompostCORNER Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 Most modern panels have in built circuitry that auto disconnects the battery from the panel when it becomes faulty to avoid damage to the alarm equipment. Some Scantronic panels use this and can catch people out if it doesn't reset once a new battery is installed. I doubt it's this as usually a full power down of the system restores this. More than likely, the battery on your panel is connected to a circuit that incorporates a glass fuse. This most certainly would have blown if the battery started pulling a large load from the panel whilst it was failing. Changing the internal glass fuse is not something I'd recommend doing unless you are confident and competent to do such things. It's of course at your risk but i would suggest calling a local alarm installation company to fit a new fuse as they would also check that the battery failure hasn't been caused by some other underlying problem. Best be safe than sorry is the best principal. Also, your panel should not revert to factory settings when power is lost as it should be equipped with a 'non volatile memory' chip. This stores all engineer programmed variables the alarm needs to work correctly in the premises it's installed in. Again, another reason why I'd suggest a visit from a reputable alarm company. your alarm panel may be suffering a slow death and may be in need of a replacement. Tony
