Oldfart1 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hello End user here. We have a TS500 which is working fine, but the records show the last battery replacement was 1998. Last night we had a power cut, the alarm went off, Tamper was flashing, I cleared it with the user code. Same happened last week when I cut the power to do some lighting work. So I think we need a new battery. What's the best place to buy one, and which one do we need - the spec sheet just says it's 2.6Ah? If I remove the battery cover, presumably the Engineer code will be needed to reset it - I know the default but not whether it has been recoded, is there any way of finding out? It appears from the installation manual that I can return it to default by wiring a link across the exit terminator terminals and entering the default code, but it doesn't say which terminals I have to bridge? Will this be apparent when I open the box? I called the company whose sticker is on the alarm, but they have no code records any more. Help please !! Thankyou
Guest RJBsec Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 12 volt 2.6 ah battery is the only size that will fit (well a smaller 1.2 would but you don't want that). Unless it's set for 'engineer reset' any tamper caused by removing the cover should be cleared with the user code. Consider calling an engineer in though, if it was installed in 1998 it's way overdue a service and check!
Chorlton Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 hello & welcome. regards buying a battery, see our site sponsor "securitywarehouse" banner above and get one the same physical shape with as near a Ah rating as possible to your existing. Regards defaulting information and engineer codes we don't provide that on this forum for obvious security reasons. see the site rules and reminder here - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/comm...p;f=11&id=8 Don't know if you actually need anymore than your user code to be honest to change a battery but others with more knowledge will confirm C.

A TS500 of that age won't need an engineer reset after a tamper activation, your usual user code will suffice to silence the tamper when you remove the cover and reset once you have replaced the battery.
Oldfart1 Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Thankyou all, most kind of you. I should have explained that the records show annual service up to March 06, it's just the battery that appears to be 10 years old as that's the date of the last invoice. System was installed 1992. I'll have a go and see what happens. Thankyou

Not being funny but the engineer/company should have changed the battery on a three yearly basis-normally-check previous service sheets and make sure you aint been charged for a battery change or two when it hasn't !

Interesting. I'm sure the only change was in 98 as we were charged an extra
james.wilson Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 volt meter wont show anything you need to load the battery and test the result, ie pull 2 or 3 Ampls of it and check it stays above 11.8v or use a proper battery tester like most would on a service. The regs for your system required the battery to be chnaged every 5 yrs wether it needed it or not, but they may have said its due.... and you declined etc. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
