goncall Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Well i can only comment for us and say that we wouldnt move a bell. Unless the maint price was increased to cover it. Im not saying there is no point discussing it but 1hr 1/2 of an engineers time plus the service needs to be paid for somewhere. Also we are very busy and i am always wary of companies that i want to use at home that are very quiet etc. Like an empty reasturant i suppose were busy too,but customers always right etc, someone else will do it to get a 2-3yr maintenance contract then so would we..of course any work that needs doing to bring to standard will be disscused and charged at the standard rate,on customer request.as regards the restaurant thing, thats a pleasure purchase, security is grudge purchase, and the grudge purchase comes before the pleasure.

To be honest it's a bit of a joke, why do companies charge just to turn up? I mean who wants somebody to just turn up, as a customer you need to know what the realistic charge is for at least the first half hour which would cover things like a battery change or possibly a PIR. The charge you quoted of
Chorlton Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 it's just the term being used IMO it will include some on site time be it 15 mins or a whole hour. saying it as such is to be really clear that it's the MINIMUM cost that MUST be paid even if it takes 2mins to fix the fault. we've all been in a similar situation where the customers gets the hump because we still expect paid (make that need paid) even if we fix it quickly upon arrival. each to their own

Guest RJBsec Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Some companies up their prices for non contract customers particualry when they fitted the systme originally, they often get away with it because many custmers think they have to use the original installer. Some quote a high price because they just really don't want the work and if they have to do it they will make it worth their while. Personally our callout will always include 30 mins labour. There will always be someone cheaper but as the saying goes "you pays yer money and takes yer chance", especially in a 'crisis'. I remember a few years ago we lost some ridge tiles in gale force winds so called a builder who advertised "no callout charge". He replaced 9 ridge tiles and then sent a bill for replacing 15 ridge tiles and a callout charge of
