Darren1998 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hi there New to this website and would be massively grateful if someone can help me out. First Burgular system we've had and on moving in and having laminate flooring laid we had the misfortune of the joiners cutting through the alarm cables in several places. As a result required Alarm Engineers to come out and it costing over
leesutton Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 No its not right for them to stop the system from setting just because its not on contract...... The best thing to do is try and find the installation companies name and number ( sticker on the panel or on the bell box) Give them a ring and explain the situation. My advise is for you to get it serviced then at least you know it is in good working order Lee Sutton E-Mail: leesutton@centurianfire.co.uk Website: www.centurianfire.co.uk Phone: 0845 094 9870 CENTURIAN FIRE & SECURITY (part of centurian group limited)
Darren1998 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Thanks mate. Much appreciated. Don't have any stickers etc on the control box so at a bit of a loss on that front. Is it something any company will be able to do or will I need to go back to the previous home owner to find out who they had a contract with? Thanks again for your help?
A-G Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Could it be that there is a tamper fault that needs the intervention of an engineer ... rather than it being deliberately locked to force you to have it serviced. . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.
Darren1998 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Think is deffo a service lock as had been giving a warning signal each time I was setting stating to call engineer as service was due.
james.wilson Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 yes they cant do that so id have a word. Was a case by use where an (unapproved co) was using this. Darren1998 Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks again for guys who've taken time to respond. Am hoping someone might be able to offer me a solution as managed to get the security company who were dealing with the previous owners of the alarm (on the outside of the house!). Basically, I'm not very happy as having had no contract ourselves with them and having had an engineer out a couple of months back to fix a wire we've now been told that our options are a) costs of
james.wilson Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 ah a bit of extra info. it may be that it used to be a signalling system and as such on engineer reset (a requiremnt for police response systems) the previous owners have then cancelled this but refused to pay to have the system reprogrammed after disconnection (ie they didnt want to use it all anymore or similar) then you move in and find this. if the above is the case then the company are correct IMO to charge to comeout to disable the police response programming as there is a real cost to them. But if they have enabled a service lockout then they are not. Hope that helps somewhat. Im afraid that calling someone out is going to cost you something, so you can either find an alternative supplier or sort it out with your current provider. It can be a problem with audible only systems as the regs do require a system to be serviced and for engineer reset to be on for faults etc. But you may not want the service etc. Problem comes when the company installing the system complies with the regs and then you dont have a service done. company cant come out for free and disable programming. But again it depends on the reason for the lockout. Service lockouts are illigal, but if you have caused a tamper (removal of lid etc) then it has done what its supposed to etc. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest RJBsec Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 You might have to do a lot of ringing around to get it done for less than
Darren1998 Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Fantastic guys. Thanks very much for all your help regarding this. I take it there's no way of me knowing if it's a Service Lock out and will have to ask the guy who comes round? Darren
