Stevo Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 About 14 months ago I had an alarm professionally fitted, Scantronic 9651 control box and pet immune Pyronix KX10DP PIR sensors. At christmas we got a pair of kittens which somehow managed to set off the alarm, strange seeing as the data sheet say's the sensors are immune upto 24kg? No problem I thought there shut in the kitchen at night i'll omit that zone, when trying to do that the alarm beeped and would not allow the function. I've since played around with the alarm removed covers off the sensor to see if there was a petentiometer to adjust but nothing. I now have call installer on the keypad and the alarm will do nothing! Although not and alarm professional i'm a fairly competant Control System Engineer, Is there anywhere I can obtain the install manual to solve the problems I have and maybe reconfigure the alarm to seperate zones so a partial set can be done? Or should I call the installer pay the money and grin and bear it? They called me prior to xmas wanting to come out and service the alarm to which I declined, being electrically minded and having no problems with the system I thought whats to service? Little did the problems and costs the kittens would cause. Appreciate any help thanks!
Guest RJBsec Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 It isn't really a good idea to start taking bits of the alarm apart it is only ever going to make the problem worse. You should call the installer and get him to come out and service it - tell him the pet-friendly detectors are not proving pet-friendly (could be that they are incorrectly sited or the cats are able to get too close to them). Then either accept that you need the system regularly maintained, or tell the installer that in future you wish to muddle through with it on your own and ask him to default the engineer code and any lockouts that may apply - you should expect him to then wash his hands of any responsibility for the system.
Stevo Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 you should expect him to then wash his hands of any responsibility for the system. He has already got a letter after not having it serviced.
Monty Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Remember pet imune sensors are only pet imune 1metre or more away eg if the kittens are able to jump up onto kitchen worktops, kitchen cupboards etc then they may well give off enough heat to be seen. Advise that you get your installer to service www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com

Agreed. He has already got a letter after not having it serviced. Letter maybe, but you need him to come round and default the eng code. Some firms charge for this. Afterwards you can do whatever with your system.
lawandorder Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The best advice for most people would be to have the system serviced as already suggested by othere posters but there are exceptions and many people want to have more control and like to DIY. If you are determined to do this yourself you have several options. 1 You could approach Scantronic and ask them to send you an engineering manual (I'm not sure what their policy is with this, it varies from maker to maker). Once you've got the manual you can decide whether or not to give it a go, worst case scenario you may have to eat humble pie and have a very frank chat with an engineer who will mock you relentlessly. 2 Replace the panel with something like a Texecom R8 which is a reasonably priced panel and will come with a manual (or at least they used to). I am not suggesting that you go this route, only you know your skill levels but I program PLCs and I guess you do to, with a bit of effort and research I think you will manage an R8.
