Powermax power problems

I've installed a Powermax with an external Elmdene 13V power supply so that it can support an external sounder. The Elmdene has an SLA battery backup and in addition the Powermax panel has a set of AA rechargables.

My understanding is that the alarm should keep working as normal in the event of a power cut running off the battery back up. However, i've an electrician doing some work at the moment and when he pulls the fuse to work on the circuit the alarm is connected to it triggers the alarm.

I cant find anything about this in the Powermax instructions - any clues on how to solve it? I really dont want the alarm going off whenever theres a supply interruption.

You're Elmdene 13v power supply will need its own battery back-up, otherwise , when your mains goes off , your bell looses its permanent 12v connection , and will sound.

The Elmdene does have it's own lead acid back up battery which should be providing 12Vconstant. I would have thought:

- the elmdene provides power to the panel and through the panel to the bellbox

- if the mains is cut the elmdene back up battery powers everything

- if the wire between the elmdene and the panel is cut the internal batteries in the panel continue to power the panel but the bellbox should sound (need to have a look at this tonight) as i think the bellbox takes it's power from the panel input.

- However, I would hope that the bellbox should not distinguish between the elmdene supplying power from the mains or from its battery -

It sounds like I need first to check the elmdene battery is properly in circuit.

Thanks for the replies. I got (frankly) terrible information from the vendor of the alarm system -

1) you can programme the panel not to do this

2) the bellbox will register the mains going off as a tamper and SHOULD alarm

both of which i knew to be wrong.

I'm only using the Elmdene power supply and the battery was in circuit and charging. However, the battery output fuse had blown - replaced that and now working fine.
