Guest mickcom Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Could someone tell me what the common name is for RS 485 and RS 242 cables?? What is cat 5 is it RS 485 or RS 242?? ta
Guest mickcom Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 So if i was buying cable to connect to RS 485 connections what would i ask for??? Cat 5?????
neil.c Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 I think "cat 5" network cable is terminated with RJ-45 plugs. RS485 is a transmission standard produced by the EIA for different manufacturers to follow, when manufacturing transmitting and receiving equipment. Cat 5 is for 802.3 standards.
Guest linea Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 beldon sheilded twisted pair cable or equivelant should be used for 485 transmision only using a single twisted pair RX TX and can be ran over 1000 metres beldon sheilded twisted pair or equivelant should be used for 423 transmision using 2 pair tx rx / rx tx and should only be ran over short distances cat 5/ cat5E/ giga /+ Cat6 though all 8 cores are terminated usualy with rj45 only 4 of the cores are used its a bit more complicated as when pcs are communicating between each other if there is an error in the message the pc's ask for the message to be repeated with 485/423 this generaly is not the case. if you strip data cable you will notice each pair is twisted at different ratios and that the pairs are twisted uniformaly around each other, this makes an overall differnce in the length of each core over any distance of the cable. this helps stop interferance between the cores. tryed use data cable for 485 telemetry doesnt work to many twists in data cable. xcuse te spelling hope this helps give a simple idea i hope
