I have a scantronic 9448+ and recently it has started to ring even when the alarm is not set.

When it does goes off incorrectly the tamper light shows and when i then key in my user code the bells stop. I can the reset the alarm properly by again keying in my user code.

the alarm will be ok for about 3 to 6 hours and then it will go off incorrectly again, but i can reset it every time and stop the bells ringing by keying in my user code.

the fault seems to be an intermittent tamper event.

when i say incorrectly, I mean that it goes off occasionally in no set pattern. The tamper light is always showing as an error/fault when it does go off and the bells and internal sounders start to ring.

It will go off sometimes when the alarm is not set, sometimes when it is part set, and sometimes when it is fully set.

I would have thought that if there was a tamper problem because of a wire being cut, or the control panel not on properly. or detector wire/cover etc, it would be going off consistently and it not be possible to reset the alarm using the user code as there would be a persistent problem causing the tamper. Also that there would be some pattern in the way it goes off.

None of the zones are lit when the bells sound, only the tamper light.

This only started happening a couple of weeks ago, and since then it has happened about 10 times.

For instance it happened yesterday i.e sunday 22nd feb, twice during the day and it has not happened since then. From then until now and including overnight when i part set it, it has worked perfectly well and as i would expect it to have done. It did not go off during the night and has not done so since it last went off with the tamper light showing on sunday afternoon

During Sunday, the alarm was not set at any time during the day, and yet it happened twice during the day while i was home when the alarm not set.

Tamper faults will sound whether the system is set or not, it could be that your outside 'bell' has developed a fault due to exposure to the elements and needs replacing. Best to call in a local installer to check the circuits and the bell tamper and report what is necessary to rectify the problem.

Faulty Battery.

When this problem occurs does the outside sounder activate or is just the internal sounder?

To be honest it could be the battery or the external sounder but it could also be any number of other things and it really does need testing properly to diagnose it.

External SAB sounding?

Could be a few things, sounds to me like it is a problem with the external sounder or cabling.

You may want to give consideration to getting an engineer to sort this, as there is a good chance it will eventually stop resetting, and you'll be left with a siren ringing uncontrollably. Usually at 2 in the morning :fear:

If the system has never been serviced, it will probably need a new back up battery in the control panel too (these generally last between 3 and 5 years depending on the quality and the ambient temperature they are installed in)

Why not ring 2 or 3 alarm companies in your area? Bear in mind a daytime callout charge will be quite alot less than an out of hours one.

I bet its only going off internally, if its external as well then I agree its likely to be the external siren, my money is still on it being the battery.

Sorry RJB, agree with you too, just think what customers say and what actually happens in these circumstances (not dissing the op I hope).
