Terry Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 All installers got their favorite. My advice is always to find the installer first then go with the gear they fit & maintain - obviously insist it does what you want, but take advice from them. As always the hard bit is finding the installer imo. The guys i called are NSI or SSAIB approved which are local to me. There is pretty much nothing more i can do, as I am not interested in a large company like Everest & Anglian windows!! Or even ADT. I want someone local who'd have a reputation to protect and is NSI or SSAIB approved but who can also give me a 24hr emergency number to call if I need to. So really after a midsize local company I thought I'd find a panel that meets my requirements by researching in a place like this forum, then find an approved professional installer who works with the panel I liked. Is the Texecom premier a PD6662 compliant that meets all my notification needs? Then maybe I can live with it not being wireless by strategically placing the smoke detector
hpotter Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 There is pretty much nothing more i can do, Ask friends, relatives, neighbours, work collegues. Get as much info on the firm as you are on the panel and you'll get a good system with competitive TCO that does what you want it to do. If you punt around a panel, could end up with firm with bad reputation!!

Excuse my ignorance, what does TCO stand for?
magpye Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Excuse my ignorance, what does TCO stand for? Something like True Cost to Own - or similar Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
Guest old-hand Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Then maybe I can live with it not being wireless by strategically placing the smoke detector How strategically would you mount it? Its either in the right place or not.
breff Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 What part of London are you in Terry? The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
Terry Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Excuse my ignorance, what does TCO stand for? TCO= Total Cost of Ownership (factoring in maintenance cost, i think) How strategically would you mount it?Its either in the right place or not. My existing smoke alarm is in the hallway (where the panel is - in the under-stairs cupboard), I was thinking of relocating the detector to the ceiling in the landing. But if I'm to compromise on wireless, then I'll just leave it where it is, and try and get the installer to run a cable to it in a discrete way. What part of London are you in Terry? Twickenham
james.wilson Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 as above tco is total cost of ownership but it includes all costs. installation and maint are the headline figures, callouts, ie naff hardware will cause more callouts and or bad installation will cause more, tel number charges (is the digi calling a freephone number), any additional charges ie batteries etc. It is ALL COSTS associated with the system. Usually (or often) the cheaper headline systems make it pay by charging for other things, that would in the long run cost you more than say one of our systems. Thats why TCO is important. But be careful going down the cheapest is best route. I rarely find it is with anything securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
magpye Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Similarly, is that not what I said? Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
