PIR's facing windows, a back door with no DC or PIR with access to the panel without passing a device.....

You sure all those things are wrong? What grade was the alarm? ..... or was it a 4737 system?

Sometimes I think some members have an alert sent to their mobile everytime someone posts the word "electrician"

All im asking is what way / how often are the inspections?

lol

inspections are just the same as nic, corgi etc. ie the inspectors pick the sites to audit.

ie not every site is inspected by a 3rd party that is down to the individual approved co to audit. However any system can be inspected on the request of the client etc.

I was asking as your a 'spark' are you an approved spark ie NIC, eca etc?

Not me ..... I was an electrician for many years before I became an alarm engineer.

I've been both, so I'm ideally placed to know the similarities and differences.

... and I still say, electricians for electrical work & alarm companies for alarms.

The questions I asked in my last post weren't to catch you out, but to show that an electrician is unlikely to have deep knowledge of alarm regulations .... just as alarm engineers are unlikely to know electrical regs. to the required level to competently carry out extensive electrical work.

No mate I'm not self employed so I'm not a member of anything. NIC is a joke so I definitely wouldn't be joining them when I eventually go it alone.

The company (electrical) I served my time did a lot of security work, some clients even specified we first fixed Intruder jobs as we worked to such a high standard in concealing cables.

The last company I worked for tested very little work they did, and when they did test it wasn't done properly. Most of the sites were Police stations so the NIC guy wasn't allowed onto site....

Alarm Guard

just to put a fly in ointment.

i am a qaulified electrician, also a fully experienced intruder / fire and cctv engineer, ( i do a bit of access but not a lot)

there are engineers out here that have a very good knowledge of both the electrical and security industries.

a bit of history for you about myself.

time served electrician from school (wired my fist home when i was 14 years old, checked and tested by the local electrical supply company, as it was and fully passed)

left the elctrical industry to become on of them alarm blokes!!!!!!!!

started a small local firm, picked up customers from the electrical side of life and subsequently fitted (at first) only audible systems)

joined the SSAIB and continued to fit systems and electrical works as well

gained full approval,

got a bit sick of the paperwork in 2007, sold out (not to that large american company) then worked to a couple of the nationals, but now i am back in the fore starting again from the bottom.

so electricians can be alarm engineers as long as they understand the requirements DD243 / PD6662 NACP etc and of course our old mainstay BS4737 and BS7671 (17th now) also EN54 BS5839 ETC ETC ETC ETC

sorry to go on but, well you know.

there are good and bad in all industries, including ours,

Mr Shaggy
