cynic-al Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Hi all, I've moved into a house with a Veritas 8. It was installed when the house was built in 2001 and seems to be a pretty common unit. I want to program my own part set 1, at the moment its configured for setting the alarm at night, ie upstairs zones omitted. I want to change it so that i can use part set 1 in the daytime and omit zones that my dog may trip. At the moment i have to do a full set omitting zones one by one every time i set the alarm, a complete pain so i tend not to bother! I've had a read of the user and installation manual and changing the part sets is only available with the engineers code which i do not have. Is this the case? I have a phone number for the company that installed but i haven't bothered phoning as i'm pretty sure they won't give me the code over the phone and their office is 50 miles away so there's no way i'm paying for a call out just to get the part sets changed. I've tried the factory default engineers code and that doesn't work. Figured theres no point contacting a local installer as i'm guessing they would need the code too! Anyone any suggestions?

Rulland Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 you have the engineers manual !!!!!.................
lawandorder Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 you have the engineers manual !!!!!................. What engineer code is locked? I know it can be on R8+ and I thought same applied to later Veritas. On the other hand I could be wrong.
Rulland Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 If the code is 'locked' then it's a tad awkward to to anything-what I meant was using the manual will tell you weather it's locked or not-if you know what I mean .
A-G Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I have a phone number for the company that installed but i haven't bothered phoning as i'm pretty sure they won't give me the code over the phone and their office is 50 miles away so there's no way i'm paying for a call out just to get the part sets changed. My advise. If you know how to do it yourself, do it ..... if not, call the installing company and at least find out what their charge is. 50 miles isn't a great distance for most alarm companies. In our industry we tend to cover large areas, and they may even have an engineer based close to you. . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.
cynic-al Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 i know how to do it, i don't know the 4 digit engineers code to access the engineers menu to change it, can't do it with the users code Might give them a call and see, paying annoys me when all i need is the code off them
lawandorder Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 i know how to do it, i don't know the 4 digit engineers code to access the engineers menu to change it, can't do it with the users code Might give them a call and see, paying annoys me when all i need is the code off them The problem is they probably use the same engineer code for all their customers so to give it to you is potentially compromising the security of all their customers. Give them a call, they should be able to give you a price over the phone.
A-G Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 As lao has said, you won't be given the engineer code .... so the only options are to totally re-programme the alarm (maybe you'll get it right) or pay for an engineer to sort it for you (guaranteed to be correct). . . . FASTCAR Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Just ask if its their policy to lock or not..if its not locked default it , if it is , either pay-up or if you are capable , replace it.
