I was thinking of buying a Powermax alarm system until I saw that BT are doing the VP1000 for £99.

Looking at the pictures and the instruction manuals they look the same system!

Does anyone know if they the same, or has BT disabled some of the features.

Thanks

Anthony

There is no catch. You get 3 months free, then its £5 a month subscription. According to BT, when you don't subscribe, the alarm will work but it won't dial out to anyone (this may be the catch  ).

What I want to know is can the VP1000 be turned into a Powermax so it can dial out to any number and be connected to an external siren.

Can't link to BTs site so heres a bit of it.

What charges are there?

£99.99 (inc. VAT) for the BT Home Monitor home security system including Control Panel, 1 Wireless Magnetic Contact, 2 Wireless Movement Detectors, Keyfob and External Dummy Siren, plus all the necessary mounting equipment and installation guides.

This includes 3 months monitoring, ensuring that you and your contacts will receive alerts via fixed line phone, text message or email(your 3 month home monitoring service starts from the time you register your details online).

After the first 3 months, you can continue the monitoring service for a low monthly charge of £5. It is easy to renew your BT Home Monitoring service, just visit and register on BT click&buy

For someone to give something for nothing they would have to get nothing for something, there will be a catch even a big company like bt doesnt give stuff away like that.

found it!

* An active subscription to the monitoring service is required. The BT Home Monitor VP1000 comes with first 3 months monitoring included in the price. After this time, monitoring is charged at a monthly fee of £5.00.

**System requires power-supply and connection to a telephone line.

You will be tied into a contract mind you £5 a month is not so bad it depends on how long your tied in for.

Personally I would swerve wireless stuff anyway in preference to a proper alarm system.
