fertilebert Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 My mum phoned me tonight to say that her friend (75 yrs old) had a problem with her alarm and she had been told it was knacked and all needed replacing, panel bellbox detectors etc, apparently told this by an "alarm engineer" Well if it is you Mr Alarm engineer in Holmfirth , Huddersfield, THE ONLY PROBLEM IS HER BACK UP BATTERY and you have told her every thing needs replacing and she hasn't got the guts to challenge you on this , I only wish she had phoned me first. I have made a living out of being honest at all times , it does pay off in the long run ! You should hang your head in shame!

Well, there's only one alarm Co. listed at Holmfirth, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them if you want to tackle them . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.
fertilebert Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Well, there's only one alarm Co. listed at Holmfirth, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them if you want to tackle them I Have to say , i don't believe it is a registerered alarm co , just a one man band.
lawandorder Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Well, there's only one alarm Co. listed at Holmfirth, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them if you want to tackle them Just to play devils advocate who said it only needed a battery? It may well have only needed a battery to get it working but perhaps the suggestions were justifed if the system was old and poorly maintained? Obviously I haven't seen the system but would be a little reluctant to slate the company involved without a little more information.
Alarm Protection Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I understand how you are feeling but how did the system just need a back up battery? Did the engineer go through all the test procedures..........what did he write on his worksheets? Dont get me wrong as im sure all enginers that work for their companies do their best. Please remember that replacing a battery is not the solution to all problems. His worksheet should say what is wrong etc. !
james.wilson Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 it is also entirly possible this guy isnt a reputable firm lads. does beg the question though.... wasnt you was it bert? and if not how come they didnt calls their mates son who it appears is an alarm engineer? His worksheet should say what is wrong etc. Well the area had a power cut , and her alarm went off , engineer went out reset system (240v back on now) all now checked and working ok , however despite all being working ok "engineer" takes SAB off gable end and leaves with customer telling her how much she is now at risk , and she needs to to confirm new install asap it is also entirly possible this guy isnt a reputable firm lads.does beg the question though.... wasnt you was it bert? and if not how come theyI didnt calls their mates son who it appears is an alarm engineer? James Let me say for the record , i dont believe for a minute that this is an engineer from any of the local nsi companies , and is just a one man operation , I wish she had phoned me first , but lets face it its my mums friend she didn't know what i do for a living until talking to my mum and she said "oh my Rob is a engineer ,( ha ha !) I know the points people are trying to make about being devils advocate etc , However iam a qualified spark , with 29 years in the security / acccess control industry and i have probrably forgotten more than this guy has learned. My point is just that it is sad to know that some folk will take advantage , that's all .
Alarm Protection Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Ok so did your mums friend have a maintenance contract or phone a local guy to come and sort the system? There is something up here but i maybe wrong. So from what i have read an engineer went out and reset system.....you say 240v back on now......but if it was a power cut how can he get 240v back on??.....so once the engineer got 240v back on all was working but then the engineer decides to get his ladders out and take the bell down and telling your mums frien that she is a risk?? Come on....and you have not been on the phone to the guy????? TBH if that was my maws friend and that happened then i would be going round to get the engineer to put the bell back up! Theres something not right about this lol! !
