Guest need help Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I am hoping someone can help. We bought our house a couple of years ago, but never turned the alarm on. The man who lived here before us told us the code and left a little leaflet telling us how to arm it, but he didn't leave anything else. We want the alarm on, cheaper insurance but when we turned it on today the zone 2 light stays on. We can't put the code in because the light is on. We can do a bell test and a walk test, but as far as setting the system-it won't let us! I called the phone number on the alarm and they told us to call someone else tomorrow and start a contract off. That sounds like £££ to me??? I am not gonna spend £100's of pounds to save £20 on insurance. Also, the outside bell doesn't go off. DH thinks it's disconnected up in the loft or something, and will have a look later, but I thought I would mention it incase it's relevant. Please please can someone offer us some help.
norman Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Hello, need help It sounds like you need to check all the circuit's on the system to distinguish the open one stopping the set. Personally I would look in the Yellow Pages or similar and ring a local company to have it serviced and the bell updated, It is usually an insurance requirement for the system to be on an annual contract to qualify for a discount, but the discount offered is sometimes not worth bothering with. hope this helps. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest Peter James Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Having the system regularly serviced will actually save you money, finding faults and repairing them before they turn into expensive faults (what would you do if the bell started ringing at three in the morning when it pouring with rain and gail force nine?) . Expect to pay from £48.00 pounds upwards for a service contract (get several quotes) you may only be saving £20 on the insurance but if you end up calling someone out at three in the morning non contract expect to pay £120.00 upwards. Guest Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 what would you do if the bell started ringing at three in the morning when it pouring with rain and gail force nine?) what would an engineer do ???? would you expect one of your engineers to climb ladders in those conditions.......
Paul Giles Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 Yep get it serviced asap, the 9200 is bullet proof so should have no problems. The 9200 tho is very old and if the siren is from the original install then it may not have a cut off timer built in.
