chemjosh
Dear All, I hope someone will be able to help please?? Yesterday I replaced my ageing Scantronic 9452 control panel and Flash guard XL bell with a NEW Scantronic 9448+ and Flash guard value alarm sounder. The reason for this was two fold, firstly some of the keys on the keypad had stopped working and secondly the bell on the sounder had stopped working. Yesterday I managed to rewire the entire system. Everything now works absolutely fine apart from one thing. When the alarm is triggered the strobe flashes but the external bell box sounder does not work. Given that the sounder on the previous alarm did not work this makes me think of a possible wiring problem but also the instructions for the control panel are not that clear, see below. On the 9448 Control Panel there is the following connections for the bell box, STR BELL 12V 0V TR On the flash guard bell housing there is TRIG + TRIG - SUPPLY + SUPPLY - STROBE + STROBE - TAMPER SERIES TAMPER RETURN I have it wired in the following way (I found this on the forum) (six wires from the control box). According to the manual the trigger for the bell is negative. Also the bell box has a jumper for BATT which I have set "on" and I have the jumper set to "SAB" mode. There are also two other jumpers in the bell box in the top left hand corner not detailed in the manual called number 6 and 7, currently set on seven. This is a single box so I have not used the tamper series connection and the series tamper link has not been cut. STR - STROBE -VE BELL - TRIG -VE 12V - SUPPLY +VE 0V - SUPPLY -VE TR - TAMPER RETURN 12V - STROBE +VE According to the wiring diagram it would have you wire it the following way which doesn't make sense to me. STR - STROBE -VE BELL - TRIG -VE 12V - SUPPLY +VE TR - SUPPLY -VE 0V - TAMPER RETURN 12V - STROBE +VE Could someone confirm which way around the wires should go and can anyone shed any light on the jumpers. Also, I have noticed that when wired the first way round you do not have a 5 second bell test when you put the battery jumper in the on position. When the box is wired the second way around you do get a 5 second bell test when you add the jumper. I have also circuit tested the wires from the control panel, I have simply checked to see if there is a continous circuit (all appear to be ok). Is there a better way to do this, maybe resistance?? Is there something really stupid that I am missing here. The sounder definately works because if you connect the bell wire from the control panel to the positive triger the alarm sounds continously. Many many thanks for any advise Best wishes Joshua
y-i-out-of-bed
i would say on quick reading that you might have to put a link wire from supply+ to strobe + and bell+ eg link all these together, then put a resistor between bell+ and bell- linking these and same with strobe+ and strobe- linking these, as panle might not have pull up resistor, any resistor over 1k should do, dont go lower than this as you could blow your panle. you might have some with the bell, as for the other jumpers thay could be cut off timers eg 5min 10min 15min cheack you have 12v at bell & str and this drops to just about 0v when you set these off, if bell wire is broken rewire bell and strobe togeather at bell and put that wire in to bell output as this will cut you off after 15min you will lose strobe intill unset but not realy needed it will flash with bell ps if you dont understand this ask as if you get that wrong you could atlest blow a fuse or worse burn out cable and panle on gide i would put 0v to supply- and tamper return to tamper return inless you have more than one bell
