What's the general consensus here about putting up warning signs for CCTV with an alarm system in operation?

Is it considered an added deterent or is it best not to put up a warning so that the would be bad-doer doesn't cover his face up to avoid being caught?

DPA considerations first and foremost - but generally fit them anyway.

Scrote sees the signs he'll have seen the cameras anyway.

do we think we need multi language warning signs now, ie are we not being a little disciminatiry assuming all scroats can read english?

ie welcome... and all that, gonna need some big signs.

Im wondering if the sign is not multi language and non english reader doesnt heed warning....are we in any trouble?

Great big yellow sign with pic of camera on? .... you're right, they'll think it's a film audition.

Would you consider a sign an added deterent or is it more of a legal issue?

I will be putting up some mini domes so it's not guaranteed that they will be seen.

In most circumstances the end user is responsible in law (DPA) to install CCTV warning signs at the boundary of the surveillance area.

There is a required minimum format for the signage and this has been detailed here in the past.

Unlike installing intruder alarms, as an installer you can place your client in a situation where if not advised correctly there is risk of personal criminal prosecution.

I would suggest that all contractors installing CCTV should read and understand the requirements of the DPA Act (as well as the other to pieces of legislation that may also apply, RIPA and Human Rights Act) so that their designs comply.

The is an argument for installing additional warning signs to act as a deterrence, better not to have the crime tale place as opposed to trusting to the chance of getting a result from detecting the crime!
