stevemu7 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Hi, This is my first post on this website, which has been very helpful to me when installing security panels in the past. I've registered and decided to post as I can't find a help topic for my current dylema. I am an approved installation electrician by trade, and have fitted 3 or 4 alarm systems for friends and family, takes a little longer than an alarm engineer, but can still follow circuit diagrams and a little help from these forums and I'm there. I currently have a scantronic 9651 panel, which was installed when the house was built. Although I have installed one of these systems from scratch with no faults and believe it or no still works today. I have recently purchased a 9940 keypad to replace the bulky 9930 (its actally a 9943 but i believe this still works with the 9651) I have a good idea of the engineer programming of this system, but I want to add a PIR to downstairs and replace this keypad. To do this I need to remove the 9651 panel cover. Is there a way of not triggering the bell to do this. I've read that just going into engineer mode will be good enough, but I could do with someone confirming this to me. Also when removing the Keypad is it just a straight change over. Any help comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. Steve Haughton
hpotter Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Once in installer mode you can remove lid no probs. Keypad is a straight swap. 4 wires - pos, neg, clk & data.
Monty Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 would always down power panel Mains and batt before changing keypad or working on the bus line ?? www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com

stevemu7 Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 would always down power panel Mains and batt before changing keypad or working on the bus line ?? would powering down the mains and battery cause the bell to ring off?
Woosh Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Provided the external bell battery if working ok it will sound. Again depending on how old it should have a cut off timer approx 20 minutes. However is maintenence has not been done the ext bell battery is probably shot.

Can this cut off timer be altered to a minimum so I can work on the system? If an alarm installer was making an alteration to the system would they remove the bell battery?

hpotter Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 would always down power panel Mains and batt before changing keypad or working on the bus line ?? Well I guess youre right esp if op has no experience. Mains off - certainly, but otherwise I'd just dis the keypad panel end first.
