Guest Adrian Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 B) Hi all I need some help!! I,m installing a Sterling 10 for the 1st time, I seem to be having a problem trying to get zone text past 6 letters,I can't get the curser past the 1 on Zone 1 ect... Also when seting the alarm it starts setting as soon as you put the master code in you don't even need to press the set button. Any thoughts (only if you have installed these in the past or now!) I need an answer soon as I need to hand this system over by the weekend. many thanks in advance. Adrian B)
Guest dale Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 Adrian, I installed the sterling 10 in my house about a year ago and as I recall you have to delete where it says Zone 1 and change the text to FRNT D (meaning front door). To delete simply overwrite the existing text. Just make sure you write down that zone 1 is the front door as it will make life easier if you come to service it. When you enter the master code you arnt supposed to press set it should start beeping telling you to leave the area as it assumes you want to SET A (the whole system), if you want to part set then dont enter your code simply press SET B or C or D, this starts the silent set procedure. I know its hard and unheard of in the security industry but if you read the installation manual if its the first time you've installed a particular product it makes life a little easier.
Guest Adrian Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 B) Thanks for that Dale I did read the manuel It says to press set then ABCD ect... But like most panels your right it does default to prog A. phoned Pyronics today and it seems that the zone text will only take up to 7 letters,(what a pain) Dale what are your thoughts on this panel? Is there anything you like or dislike or qerks that would be handy to know about. I ask this as I plan to install these as my main domestic panel. Thanks for the reply B) Adrian B)
Guest dale Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 I know a few installers who swear by this panel and install them on nearly everything, personally i think the LCD RKP's are too expensive and a bit flimsy, after about 6 months the keypad flip down cover broke off in my house and its £40 ish to replace the LCD RKP, might as well spend £56 ish and replace the entire system! I must admit its never gone wrong and is fairly easy to program. You do sometimes get the exclamation mark on the keypad stuck on after youve had a power failure and the general remedy for this is set the system and unset it, or disconnect and reconnect the power. Personnaly I like Texecom gear, especially the Veritas R8, the keypad are about £18ish and the entire system is about £45 ish and they are so easy to program, even reprogrammed over the phone with customer at the panel. Read the manual again last night for the Sterling and your right its pretty **** can understand why you had trouble!
Steve K Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 I've been fitting the Sterling 10 for the past 9 months, and I am one of those people who swear by it! I agree with the cost - it is very dis-proportionate when you need an extra keypad. I've never had a problem yet. The y seem extremely reliable. I just bought another four yesterday, and they have just modified the design. The CPU case has been rotated 90 degrees, so it's mounted in a vertical format now. Some changes to the terminals as well. If you didn't like the handbook for installation before, you will hate it now. All instructions are for use with the Serling 10 LCD and the Icon keypad. Well confusing! I think it offers the customer a high spec panel, with extremely good looks for a reasonable price. LCD is far superior to LED. Any one else have any thoughts? Guest Adrian Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 B) Well managed to complete the programing and try out most features this evening, the thing is growing on me. Has anyone had any problems with the lid tamper switch not closing properly? Even after discovering that you need to remove the wall pin from the back plate then put it into the little whole behind the tamper switch! (It says nothing about this in the manuel) Any way when I spoke to pyronix tecnical they said they are looking into standardizing the design of the buttons on both the LCD and Icon Keypad, as well as possible showing the settings that the system currently has programed. Ie when setting the re-arm counter it will show what it is on rather than just saying the word sequence or whatever it says! The Eng manuel is also being redesigned to make it more eng friendly. I do like the way you can move the battery tray around to suit the way you mount the panel. adrian B)
Guest simmo Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 I'm another fan of the Sterling 10. Its my main domestic panel, very reliable and I've never had any problems with any of them I've installed. It does mention in the manual about the plastic pin that needs to be put in to make the tamper switch work properly its at the front somewhere! I agree the RKP lid is a bit flimsy but I've never had one drop off yet. To buy an extra RKP is expensive, I tend to buy a new Sterling 10 to get an extra RKP and then keep the control panel as a spare or as an extra power supply if it is ever needed. The LED is just a waste of time LCD is far superior. Only problems I've ever had installing is the tamper spring on the RKP, which sometimes needs stretching to make it work properly. Simmo B)
