Is My Battery Scrap?

Hi Folks,

I've got a Guardall Rascal + control panel with an ADS Housesecure sounder. When I turn off the mains power the sounder sounds. Also the panel will not allow me to use a custom code and will only work with the default code.

Given this I thought that my battery may be flat so I tried to test it as per the Make Do Drop Test detailed elsewhere in this website. However because the sounder kicks-off every time I turn off the power I can't afford to wait for the duration suggested without winding up the neighbours. I have checked the voltage accross the battery and am getting just about 12v on my analog test meter (battery install date is July 2006).

Can you please advise: A) does the ADS Housesecure Sounder have its own battery? B) How can I test the panel battery and keep the peacewith my neighbours?

cheers

Yes, the external sounder will have its own battery.

Dont bother testing battery in panel, get a new one.

Hi hpotter,

Thanks for the speedy reply, I'll get a new one tomorrow from Senate. On the subject of batteries, how long can you expect the Sounder battery to last? Its a long way up to get to it!!!

cheers

As above. By the time the sounder battery fails it'll be time to get a complete new sounder.

Hi Guys,

Smart new battery fitted but still the same, won't take a change of code and sounder kicks off when power turned off.

Any ideas??

Checked the fuses?

Checked the fuses?

Bingo!!

Although it doesn't appear to be blown my multimeter indicates that it is.

The fuse fitted is a 1A but it has a colour code on the glass section, is there anything special about it or will a normal 1A of similar size be ok?

cheers

Depends on the colours, either quick or slow blow.

Fit a quick, should be fine.

Often hard to see if a fuse is blown or not, sometimes they blow due to sudden overload and this is often visible, sometimes they go due to gradual fatigue which is not so easy to spot. (not at my age at least).

You still did the right thing by replacing the battery though.
