daubs8 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 We have a vcl maxcom on site that appears to have no physical data connection to 2 x vcl microsphere domes (for telemetry) yet ptz functions are still working via the vcl keyboard. Presumeably, the telemetry is 'down the coax'? Where will this be set up? Thanks. Just to add. The telemetry was previously controlled by a FastScan. We are installing a Vista SmartTel. Thanks.

Hi, If it was being controlled by a fastscan direct then it would have to have been on a twisted pair to the head (Fastscan doesnt have Coax Telem) or using the transparent data port to control the head when using a VCL keyboard at the Central station. The older VCL domes however used to be self sensing (not sure if they still are) so they could be controlled using either TP or Coax telem and this was done in the head of the unit. So it sounds like your head is on a coax feed. hope this helps Dan
Cubit Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Very similar situation to the nightmare we are currently working on. Beware. Make no assumptions about the VCL domes. What seems obvious from the ground may not once you open the dome up. Depends how old they are. Oh, and be careful of advice from Honeywell. They don't know either.

Have install a few of these.

And the heads can be Coax no problem. (make sure that it was being controlled via 232data and not the transparent data port as this could cause confusion at the CS when it goes live again. (if ofcourse you still plan to use the fastascan). D
