Guest futura Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Hello Wondering if anyone can help me out? Am currently wiring up a Castle Meridian Panel that has an iD system to connect all the sensors and switches. Wiring the PIRs is fine because they have the all the contacts as listed in the manual with a sensor switch and also a tamper switch. ALL GOOD. Where I am a little confused is when it comes to magnetic door contacts, window foil and in this case Texecom Exodus Optical Smoke & Heat Detector where all the sensors/switches mentioned they only have a single 'Open on Alarm' connection and no tamper connection. The question is How do you connect an iD biscuit to this type of device with only one type of switch? Also I am assuming the wiring of the window foil involves sticking the two foil blocks opposite to one another across the glass and two lines of foil run across the glass diagonal to diagonal and then linked together at one end. So if the glass is smashed then the 'Open on Alarm' condition is met. Although I am assuming 12V comes in here somewhere perhaps this is needed for just power to the biscuit device? Any help on this topic massively appreciated. William
Guest S&K SYSTEMS Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 william have you given CASTLE a ring if not then phone a chap called PHILL he tech support for them 01344 887788
j.paul Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Hi William If there is no tamper just connect iD line+ to yellow wire, on window foil just connect one side of the foil to the iD line- with the blue wire from the biscuit, the other side of the foil goes to the white wire.. Hope this helps jpaul There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.
CompostCORNER Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I made this little diagram. it's by no means a full demonstration of my talents (even though I'm a bit naff at drawing) but it should give you one or two pointers that may aid you in your quest. Anyone got any requests? I've had a drinky and I'm in the mood for a bid of abstract art. AS IF! lol. hope this helps anyways futura. Tony NB: I got the colours of the screws back to front on the contact. Silver for brass and brass for silver. I've drawn in the reed so you can work out which screws are for what. Tony
Paul Giles Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Am also guessing you have kept the foil continuious as in one strip without any breaks. PG Security Systems Somerset SSAIB Certificate of Merit Installers. www.pgsecurity.co.uk
Guest futura Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hello Everyone Many thanks to all the help I have received here. jpaul (tnx once again who helped me with a previous question), compost corner for a complete idiot proof diagram (by the way the drawing is very clear) and kipper just adding that little touch to ensure everything runs smooth (i havent yet wired the foil strips but this is obviousley very important so I will make sure it is a continuous line with no breaks). In response to S&K a valid point but I have phoned castle before. phil who you mention is really nice but if you speak to anyone else there in tech support it is a complete waste of time as they seem to take delight in being unfriendly and getting you off the phone asap without solving any problems. The units are very good, definitely premium hardware but the tech support side of it if you dont speak to Phil really does need some review. Just a point worth mentioning I feel. Anyway thanks to everyone here all comments received with thanks and have helped me out loads. William
BUSTER Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I must disagree with the comment with regard to the quality of tech support at castle. I've always found them to be excellent Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company
morph Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Castle Tech support are excellent. Without wishing to be rude William, Castle sell all their products through professional distribution outlets and they provide free training to the trade. The problems you have explained are basic to say the least, and any engineer with the correct test equipment and training could solve. Personally I dont think that you should expect the same level of support for a product that you are installing on a diy basis, as a professional engineer would and likewise I would not expect a tech support department to be structured to give diy support when it doesn't sell through this channel, as it invariably needs additional labour and time to solve each problem. And as I said at the start, Castle tech support is excellent and there training is very comprehensive too. Colin.
Guest futura Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hello Again I think fair comment about Castle not being structured for DIY type support clearly this is something they are trying to avoid. No offence taken as I agree these are very simple and basic questions I have. As in the original comment phil at castle has always been nice but unfortunately it was not just him i have spoken to. I think now you have pointed out this issue the attitude there I have experienced makes more sense. On a more positive note the help I have been given on this forum is really kind and the bad experience with Castle has lead to me finding this forum so all good.. Regards William
Security Technician Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 i used to work for a firm who fit nothing but castle gear, when it came to door contacts etc for i.d we used to use id junction boxes... connect the id biscuit and line to the jb then wire door contact normally obviously this not always possible... but had many a call to a concealed, and a well one at that, contact that had got wet and sent system nuts. Used to favour eol sometimes for domestic. I agree though cracking bit of kit, especially the euro 44 etc, i have a euro 12 in house and no complaints
