tonsai Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Sorry but IMO you'd have to be off your rocker paying
tonsai Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Just to throw a spanner into the mix, what about CAT6 cables. Does anyone have any data on cable lengths for this grade cable. I'm guessing though that the cost makes it a no-brainer.
james.wilson Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 cat 6 is for higher network speed, with less crosstalk etc. Cant see how it would help in your situation securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

james.wilson Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 it depends on the ambient light level. I would suggest that IR is a bit specialist. IR cameras have made its use more wide spread but IMO i would only use IR (and not a combined IR/cam ever) lamp/emitter for covert or due to light pollution etc. Sometimes its desirable but as a rule id say visible light is better. To do IR right you need to use a cameras that has an auto switching IR filterm ir corrected lens's to prevent focus drift etc etc. WHat makes it worse is the cheap cams as they have none of this. ANMd then you will be dissapointed with the results. FOr some reason the expectation is that 40 leds will rpovide as much light as a 500w floodlight. It really doesnt! If low loght performance is needed and you need IR then fine, otherwise id look at visiable IR and inprove the orverall security as well. Cubit Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Is this cable question related to the school spec by any chance???
SUBS Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Is this the typoe of cam you mean: Samsugn Techwin 1/3" High Resolution, WDR Vandal-Resistant DomeAlso, am I right in saying that this camera doesn't really need IR floods. The lux levels look incredibly low. I thought maybe CAT6 had a greater AWG value but just read up and it has the same as CAT5 (24AWG) CAT6 has more space between the cores/pairs, so lower capacitance, might make a difference on very long runs, but no point in it for 55M. At that distance, with 7 cameras, you might as well use co-ax.
